Elizabeth Pales

Elizabeth looked down at the envelope, lifted it. Then picked up a letter opener from her desk and slit the flap of the envelope. She opened the cut flap and removed the papers inside. I hadn’t realized that I held my breath. Then Gently Elizabeth pulled the four photos up and glanced at them in order that they were inside.

Stopping at the fourth picture. One glance and as the color faded from her face, I released my held breath.

“Where did you get these?” Dropping them all to the floor, envelope included. “If these got to Mr. Halsey, I would be immediately fired!” A trembling Elizabeth looked up at me, “What do you want from me?”
