Ed Wakes Up
Ed Sims picked up the strange book.
He wondered if the people who worked for the hotel had missed the thing when cleaning after the room’s last resident had checked out. He had been so exhausted after flying back to the States from London and then being told that an ugly weather system would keep his connecting flight grounded for the next 48 hours that he had collapsed, fully clothed, onto the bed in the cheap hotel room provided by the airline. He did not remember much about the room.
He looked around the tiny hotel room that was not much bigger than his college dorm had been twenty years ago. When he got up to relieve himself, he stomped on a pair of roaches that tried to scurry past him.
This looked like the cheapest room in the cheapest hotel near the airport!
After washing his hands, Ed flopped back onto the bed, grabbed the book, and scrawled, “Airlines do their best to put stranded customers in nicer hotel rooms.”
Ed’s vision blurred when he finished writing. His jaw dropped when he could see again.
The hotel room appeared to have tripled in size. The rock-hard single-sized bed where he had transformed into a plush king-sized bed. The tiny ancient tube TV on a small table seemed to have been replaced with a wall-mounted 65” screen. There was a nice love seat and two plush chairs near the large picture window.
Ed pinched himself as hard as he could and yelped at the pain.
“Fuck me!” he said.
He looked down at the book.
This could be fun.
