Chapter 24 by MarsWriter MarsWriter

What's next?

Double Date

Sometimes I forget how rich Robert is.

Despite being going to the most expensive restaurant in town, riding in the back seat of his super luxury car makes you feel increasingly poor. He and Ashley are chatting excitedly while I'm immersed in thoughts. Thoughts about Mother, Katie, the bills that haunt me periodically... Having a little more money would make my life a lot simpler.

"We're almost there, mate." Robert told me while he was driving. I noticed that one of your hands was on the wheel, while the other was casually resting on my sister's thigh.

A gesture of friendship. They're so close now.

Robert stopped the car and handed the keys to the valet. We go in and... WOW

The restaurant was empty, with only our tables, and with flowers and candles everywhere.

"Oh my" Ashley exclaimed, hugging Robert

"Well... I've booked all the tables, but I have no idea where all these flowers came from." Robert admitted it.

Mira did all this?

Robert continued to cuddle with Ashley, his hands almost resting on her butt.

"Let's sit down," he said.

The place was very beautiful, red, blue and white roses everywhere. I could hear the sound of someone playing the violin, but I couldn't find him in the living room. My sister sat in front of Robert while I waited for Katie to arrive to occupy the chair in front of me. Our tables were just a little separate, so we could talk between the four of us if we wanted to, while we could have a little privacy if we talked low enough.

The waiter showed up and Robert suggested we have something to drink while Katie doesn't arrive. Well, looking at the prices on the menu, the only thing I could buy without seriously hurting my pockets would be a glass of water. Even if you're not paying for anything tonight, I don't think it should be a nuisance for Robert, so I ordered a grape juice.

"I'll want the Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon Charles & Diana 1961." said Robert

"But Robbie, I've never had champagne." cried Ashley

"Trust me, darling. There's a first time for everything," he said, putting his hand under hers. "And like the others, it will be surprisingly delicious."

Ashley blushed and smiled. And now she was eager to try the drink.

it just all goes through your mind like a movie.

People say all goes through your mind like a movie when you're about to die.

I definitely wasn't about to die, but still, I felt this feeling.

I watched Katie and I kissing for the first time, meeting her parents, taking her to romantic places. I watched myself kneeling and asking for her hand in marriage, with our friends as a witness. I watched her walk into church in a white dress and say yes. I watched her cuddling of our two babies.

All this goes through my mind like a movie the moment I saw Katie walk into the restaurant. I felt a tear run down my cheek, but nothing else mattered at that moment. There I knew I needed to make Katie Brown my wife. I got up and went to her.

Katie was wearing a simple but amazing black dress. She was delighted with all the décor.

"You... you are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life."

She blushes. "Are you crying?"

"Oh, that's nothing. Let's sit down."

I drive her to the table and pull her chair so she can sit down.

Chivalry 101

The waiter returns, Kat orders her drink.

We talked about several things: favorite color, favorite movie, politics, family, series... Kat is crazy about romance films like Pride and Prejudice and Pretty Woman. I prefer superhero movies (no, I won't answer whether I prefer Marvel or DC). Kat also loves sports, while I'm more of a supporter than a athlete. But in general, I thought we were quite compatible.

We ate the main course (which was divinely wonderful and would pay 6 months salary) and continued talking. For me there was only her and nothing else in the room. I didn't even realize when Ashley asked to go to the bathroom and after a few minutes Robert also left. Also I didn't even notice when they came back, just as I didn't realize Ashley's dress was a little crumpled.

It was a wonderful evening.

Soon it was time to leave.

"Liam, do you have a moment?" Robert asked me. "It was obvious how you two were loving each other's company, so I thought, how about giving you both a little privacy? Here's the proposal, one of my drivers is coming to take you and Katie home, so you don't have to worry about me or Ashley nearby. What do you think?"

"Wow, Robert. I don't know how to thank you.

"Don't thank me," he said smiling from ear to ear, "Just enjoy your evening."

So Robert and Ashley got into a car while Robert's driver drove us home.

The neighborhood kat lived in was an ordinary suburb, and the funny thing about it is that there's a trailer park very close by. Talk about inequality...

I ran to open the car door for her, we walked to the door of her house.

"Thank you so much for the evening, Liam. I had a great time."

I took a rose that I had taken from the decorations and gave it to her.

"You don't have to thank me, I loved our time together and get to know you even more. But I can't guarantee that the next meeting will be as amazing as this one."

"Oh, then there will be more dates?" she asked, laughing.

"I hope so."

"Silly boy" she laughed and gave me a kiss.

"Good night Liam"

I couldn't answer anything, I just smiled and waved. Kat continued in front of the door of the house, waving at us.

"Very good, Romeo, " he said. "Now we're going to take you home."

I can't remember anything on the way home.

Mom was in Sean's room and Ashley apparently hadn't come home yet.

I lay in my room and thought: Life is finally smiling at me.
