Dolly Dearest

You opened the front door of your new home and took note that the hinges needed oiling. You had a feeling that you'd spot a lot of small inconveniences like that as you inspected the house but you couldn't really complain seeing as you got the place for free. Your grandma used to live in this house until she recently passed away and left it to you. You and her had always gotten along quite well but you'd never expected her to sign her entire house with a fully paid off mortgage to you. The will reading definitely brought out some mixed emotions from you, being sad that she was gone but ecstatic that she had left you something so grand.

The house was a modest size (much bigger than anyplace you had rented before) but it was located in the suburbs on the opposite end of town from where you used to live so you were somewhat unfamiliar with the area. Dealing with that would come in due time though, right now you needed to get your stuff unpacked. The movers had brought all the boxes into the house for you but now you had to put in your share of the work and get everything put away.

The next mild annoyance you discovered while unpacking, following the creaky front door, was the master bedroom. Your grandma had always been on the feminine side and the bedroom reflected that. The room was mostly pink in shades of pastel with frilly decorations adorning anything and everything. You'd need to redecorated soon, especially before inviting anyone over, but just thinking about another big project like that while in the middle of unloading everything you owned was too much of a headache. One job at a time...

A couple of hours later you had all of the essentials unpacked and neatly stored away. Deciding what to tackle next, your eyes landed upon the box holding your childhood trophies and school albums. You weren't much of a sentimental type but your parents would've killed you if you had thrown those away. Instead they continue to collect dust no matter where you take them including their newest spot, the attic.

The attic was dark and just as dusty as you had expected, though it was surprisingly spacious. You thought about some other boxes you could stash up here when suddenly your attention was caught by something in the corner. You struggled to believe you missed it in the first place considering how brightly coloured it was. Sitting in the corner of the otherwise empty attic was a fancy looking dollhouse.

You walked over to get a closer look and noticed a simple message written on a piece of paper taped to the dollhouse. It read, DO NOT OPEN, NO MATTER WHAT. You wondered why such a warning would be written? It was just a simple dollhouse, surely there couldn't be anything dangerous about it, right? Maybe it was a collectors item and that's why the warning was there? It seemed a little strange either way and you were curious what the big deal could possibly be over a simple dollhouse...
