Divergence

"So how's it going?" Douglas asked Shanequa nervously. Shanequa was nude in Will's bed. It'd been ten days since Elizabeth's offer. Ten days of their interests diverging.

"Good ... real good. Listen, I'm going to be honest, peckerwood. I kinda like this redneck ranch life," Shanequa said.

"Oh?" Douglas asked. "I saw Lamar the other day, you know. Sugar's is going to reopen next week."

"That's my point, peckerwood ... I don't want to go back to the pole. I like it here, in more than just being away from that fucked up city at the moment."

"But ... us ..." Douglas said.

"Baby ..." Shanequa said patiently. "We both know it was always a means to an end. You used me to make your bitch ex jealous. You used me to get in better with Moses. You used my womb to further whatever fucked up issues you have. And fuck, I used you too. I used you to have a better place, to have a better life. But I think something bigger led me here. And I don't think you mind that it has, to be honest."
