Derek heads home

As Derek approaches the front of his house after pulling in the driveway, he notices his old neighbor still on his porch. On a whim, Derek decides to go over and introduce himself to the old man. As he makes his way over to the man, Derek realizes he's still carrying the old book, but decides it's too late now and continues to the neighbor who is now awaiting him.

"Hey there!" Derek called out, approaching the man. Derek has always been a friendly, outgoing guy and was quite easy to get along with. Extending his hand, he stepped onto his neighbors porch. "We're new to the neighborhood. The name's Derek."

The old man seemed stern. Finally breaking, he firmly shook Derek's hand and introduced himself as Peter. Peter had a broken Irish accent, and had a weathered face. "Welcome to the neighborhood. I saw you and your missus and have been planning to say hello. How're you liking the place?"

This was like a breath of fresh air for Derek, who was worried how Peter would be. "It's a beautiful place. Absolutely lovely neighborhood. We're actually having a barbecue party next week. I know me and Jade would be delighted if you could make it." Derek said, offering an olive branch to the older gentleman. He seemed much nicer now that they were face-to-face.

"Gladly!" Peter responded, seemingly happy to have gotten the invite. After a bit more small talk, Derek was about to make his leave. As he was preparing to say goodbye, Peter seemingly was worried all of a sudden, like he had seen something. "What's the story with that book, boy?" Peter asked with an inquisitive look on his face.

"Oh, this? My girlfriend is a huge nerd when it comes to reading and asked for me to pick up something. I stopped over at the Garage sale across town, and this was the only book they had. A guy named Gorgo had recently passed and his widow was parting with things. She seemed extremely sweet." Derek explained, evaluating the book in his hands while he explain.

"Sure she was.." Peter said, almost seemingly not believing Derek's definition of the widow. "Anyways.. I'll stop by for the party. In the meantime, you be safe, lad. And your missus, too." Derek shook his hand and headed home, happy yet feeling a bit off about the end of the conversation.
