I decided I needed to confirm something myself. I took a Petri dish and walked over to one of the corners next to the door. There was a camera connected to the security system that monitored the laboratory at all times. However, there was a blind spot at the doorway where the camera couldn’t see anything at the door or in the corners next to the door.

I watched the monitor they slowly began to die over the course of about 20 minutes until they had all died.

“Fascinating. The bacteriophage inside me can only last 20 minutes outside my body it seems.” I hypothesized.

I was curious as to what conditions the bacteriophage needed to be in to allow it to live longer. When I spit out more and poured the bacteriophage I spit into a large 200 milliliter flask filled with water and let it sit for 20 minutes, I found the bacteriophages to be alive and well and slowly started to die over the course of another 20 minutes when put on a new Petri dish. I concluded that the bacteriophages died when exposed to a certain amount of oxygen in the atmosphere and seemed to thrive better in larger amounts of fluid where it could be shielded partially from the air. From what I figured the VM fluids ability to be stored for long periods of time seemed to have shielded the virus from exposure to oxygen.

“This is your captain speaking.” The ships PA suddenly blared. “In 10 minutes at 0900 hours, we will execute a Fold. We will be traveling in the slipstream for a week. Please try to follow procedures and prepare for the Fold. That is all.”

Just like Hinata had warned me, the ship was going to perform a space fold. Thankfully I didn’t have to do anything to prepare for the Fold. As I sat there continuing to monitor the microscope, the door to the lab slid open. I turned to see Mei standing at the door.

“What’s going on?” I asked flipping off the monitor to the microscope.

Mei looked briefly behind me and noticed the VM fluid vials on the counter behind me.

“I think you know what I want to talk about.” Mei said as the door closed behind her.

“Sounds like a plan.” Mei concurred.

“Would you like us to come with you?” Nea asked hugging Janina.

“Nah you and Janina can stay behind, if you wouldn’t mind fake my medical tests for me. But Mei would you mind assisting me?” I asked.

“Sure.” Mei agreed while for some reason blushing a little.

“Try not to have too much fun you two.” I said as I realized I had lost the attention of Janina and Nea as they started to make out.
