Davis is there by your cube.

“Gracie, arriving early? I love that initiative.”

“Hi, Davis. I just had a great time my first day.”

“Glad to hear it. With an attitude like yours we’ll get you on salary pretty quickly.”

“Davis, can I ask a question?”

“Of course.”

“Why aren’t you wearing EvilGlam?”

“Oh that. It’s a bit personal. My mother used to forbid it and say makeup was for whores. She passed away last December and I made a New Years resolution of no makeup for a year. So, nothing sinister. You’ll see me decked out in EvilGlam in a couple of weeks.”

You feel a bit relieved. “So you don’t think the makeup changes people?”

“Gracie, it’s the best makeup I’ve ever seen. When people put it on they look more attractive. When you look more attractive it changes you. You’re more confident, maybe a little more arrogant. But, all it does is bring what’s inside you out.”

You nod. “Thanks, Davis.”

You sit down in your cubicle, feeling comfortable that you didn’t turn your mom into a lesbian.

You begin proofreading some ads. Ten minutes later Moon scampers in and gives you a smile.

“Getting in early? Somebody is going to think you want a paycheck.”

You laugh. “They wouldn’t be wrong.”

She laughs. “Sorry I couldn’t hang yesterday, but if you want we can grab some coffee after work today?”

“Sounds goods.”

Moon gives you a smile, and boots up her computer. You both dive into work.

Midday you get a text from your mom.

Gracie, come straight home, Tanya has a surprise for you.
