Vanessa’s eyes widen as David steps out of the car. Vanessa blushed immediately as he looked at her. “David,” Vanessa said. “H-hi.”

“Vanessa, what the fuck is going on? Why are you naked?” David asked.

“It’s a long story. Um, why are you here?” She asked.

“Your mom invited me. Said something about needing me,” David said.

“That bitch,” Vanessa muttered. “She probably invited you to embarrass me. Which, it worked. Hey wait, do you still have contact with that friend that went to law school?”

David nodded. “You mean Greg? Yeah.”

“I need him to have a look at a will for me, and interpret it for me,” she said. “It’s my dad’s will. It’s why we’re stuck in this mess because apparently there was some sort of exception clause and now my mom has the inheritance. I just need someone to see if there’s a loophole or some way to undo all of this.”

“I can give him a call,” he said. “He definitely knows people who can help you.”

“Great, thanks,” Vanessa said, as she looked down at her feet, trying not to be so obvious. “Um, David, you’re not like... turned off by this are you?”

“Why would I be?” David said.

“I just... figured you would get tired of this freak show of a family is all,” Vanessa said. “I um really like you.”

“Oh,” David said. “Vanessa, I’m sorry. I like you, but not like that. I’m more into Lauren.”

“Oh...” Vanessa said, cursing under her breath and feeling the heat rise from her toes to her cheeks as her ears turned red.

“I’m sorry if I... gave you the wrong impression,” he said.

“Well, just so you know, I don’t think Lauren is actually available,” Vanessa said. “She seems to have a thing going on.”

“Oh, I see,” David said. “Well maybe it’s just as well. You both deserve someone better than someone like me.”

“You’re not so bad,” Vanessa said.

Before David could finish, Michelle walked outside.
