Chapter 24
by Orlog4
What spell do you want to use?
Create a golem
Golems are fascinating beings. Artificial life made of any solid material. A real golem is made out of a magic crystal to store energy and a golem core, that carries its mind and memories. It can take weeks or even months to program a professional golem with thousands of carefully drawn runes that decide for its form, behavior and intelligence. True masters of this can even create golems with almost human personalities.
Of course there are also a lot of very cheap golems with a poor golem core and a very basic programming. They are sometimes sold on the black marked as servants, thugs, guards or laborers. There are also some noble idiots who use such cheap golems as front soldiers in their armies. A total waste of money.
You neither have a magic crystal nor a golem core with you. But you are able to create a very simple, short lived version of a golem with a connection to your own mana reserve. It would be directed by your mind, so it is rather a puppet than a golem. But the result would still be the same.
You keep the chimera in your view while you let you mana flow. A black circle appears in your hand and every rune you focus on appears in the circle. It is a complicated spell and the chimera seems confused why you take so long. Tocar was much faster with his spells. Soon the chimera has lost patience and with an angry growl, it rushes towards you. But you are ready too. The last rune appears and you close your hand. Suddenly the ground shakes. The earth moves and then, a moss covered hand forms itself out of the forest floor.
The chimera screams when the hand reaches for its tail and holds it tight. Another hand appears and then a bulky, simple face. Within half a minute, a whole upper body made of earth, stones, moss and other things around has been constructed and moves like a living being. Two or even three times as large as a normal human. The chimera struggles and even manages to free its tail. The hand of the golem breaks apart, but it is quickly builded new.
“Kill it!” you command your golem, even if it is not necessary to say this loud, “protect me and kill the monster!”
The chimera grits its teeth and growls at the golem. Your creation, now with legs and bulky feet, walks slowly but directly between you and the chimera. The monster is not happy with a new enemy and immediately attacks it. First it stabs it with its tail, but immediately finds out that it is not possible to poison an enemy that is made of earth.
The chimera changes het tactic and bites the golem in the arm. Its jaw is strong enough to bite through the dirt and rip the arm apart. But the golem is just a puppet and not living being. It can’t feel pain. While the chimera spits out some dirt, the other hand of the golem quickly grabs the chimera by the neck and lifts it up.
The chimera struggles in panic. You feel a little pity for what will happen next, but you also know there is no other way. And you are quiet exhausted from keeping this complicated connection upright. Looking for another way is not an option. With a quick twist and a disgusting crack, the neck of the chimera breaks. The golem lets the lifeless body fall to the ground and looks at you for more orders.
“Thank you,” you say exhausted, “you can rest now.”
The golem merges with the forest floor and when you cut the connection to your mana, it looks like there never was a living creature made of earth.
That went great. Congratulations.
Reborn into Calitian
You are reborn into another world of magic and fantasy. How you live is your choice, the consequences are as well.
The world of Calitian is a world of magic whose sentient inhabitants vary from human to decidedly not. You are rather unexpectedly reborn into this world however you do not get the expected god delivered spiel about said rebirth so you are on your own. This should be interesting.
