Consider ways to escape
Anna appraised her situation. There were only two ways out of the library: the front entrance or the fire escape. Going out the fire door would set the alarm off. She would risk getting caught in a crowd and having everyone see her. However, maybe if she ran fast enough, she could get to a hiding place before anyone saw. The front entrance, on the other hand, had a wide glass double door that was open during the school day, so the doorway had nothing obstructing it. She could creep through it without putting down her book. However, she was also more likely to encounter people going this route. It was the middle of a period, so no one would probably be coming down the hall, but there were still people in the library who might see. She did not know which route was safer.
