Confrontation in the locker rooms

Football was back.

Friday Night lights, an away from home game against the Panthers. Although they wouldn’t have entered the match as favourites, they sure would have given themselves a big sniff to pinch a victory in their second last game of the season.

At Half Time, it had been a low-scoring slog, the Panthers leading 7-3.

After the break, the boys were ready to march back out there, confident they could win. Mark thought he was the last one to leave the locker rooms, starting to walk up the race behind the rest of his team.

“Rodgers!” He heard someone’s voice from behind him.

That could only be one person.

He turned his head around to see Dixon there, the number 78 in the middle of his red uniform.

“You and your friends got the message?” He said straight up to him.

Mark could see the smug look he had on his face, there was nothing more that he wanted to do than walk over and punch him right in the jaw. There was just less than 10 meters in distance between them, staring down each other.

There wasn’t any point in responding to him, it wasn’t worth his time.

Mark stood his ground, not moving an inch as Dixon walked towards him. With that smug look on his face, he brushed up against his shoulder as he was about to pass.

Whispering into his ear, he made it clear that he was still on high alert, “Ya’ll better keep staying quiet… You haven’t seen shit yet…”

He figured he was warning him that he could make things a lot worse for them. Dixon patted Mark on the back of the shoulder which just infuriated him inside. Taking deep breaths, he listened to the sound of his footsteps going up the race until he was all alone in the locker rooms.

In anger, he smacked his helmet into the concrete wall before making his way back onto the field himself.

The second half was a major failure, the Panthers hit the scoreboard first with an interception leading to a touchdown. They followed it up with the next three scores and by the end of the game, the Panthers had turned had turned a 4 point half time lead into a 32 point win.

As they imagined, Bryce was in a foul mood to see them lose, especially by this much.

One game down, one game left for the season…
