What's next?
Coffee sounds good
Sarah pulls the door open, a sleepy but warm smile on her face. She pushes a strand of tangled hair behind her ear, the oversized white shirt hanging loose on her frame, the morning light from the hallway spilling across her.
"Oh, Alex! Hi. Joe said you'd be stopping by for something — come in, I'll put some coffee on."
She steps aside, gesturing for him to enter, but Alex just stands there, eyes wide, mouth half-open. She blinks, looking down at herself. The shirt is big, comfortable, normal. She looks back up at him, puzzled.
"Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost."
She glances back toward the kitchen. "Joe, I think Alex's having a moment out here."
Sarah looks back at Alex, still waiting for an answer. He finally blinks and clears his throat, managing a strained smile.
"Sorry, Sarah. Just—morning, that's all. Coffee sounds good, yeah."
She nods, not quite convinced, and leads the way into the kitchen. As she reaches for the coffee grounds, she notices you at the stove, a hint of a knowing smile on your face. She feels a faint blush creep up her cheeks, but she doesn't know why. She busies herself with the coffee maker, then turns to lean against the counter, crossing her arms loosely over her chest.
"So, Alex," she says, trying to make conversation, "Joe mentioned your party tonight. What kind of thing are you planning?"
Alex's eyes keep darting down for a split second before snapping back up to her face. He rubs the back of his neck, his voice slightly strained.
"Uh, just a small get-together. Some friends, some music, the usual. Nothing too crazy." Alex responds
Sarah tilts her head, a soft smile playing on her lips. She's still completely oblivious, but the way he keeps avoiding her gaze is starting to make her curious. "You're being weird this morning. Did something happen?"
