Chapter 1390 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Check in on the ALICE.

Fava is as curious as you are, so she continues to follow behind as you make your way to Luna's humble abode. It's hopefully been long enough to where they've made some progress. Though when you arrive on the street leading up to it, you can see both Yin and Alice are waiting outside.

"To make it less stressful and crowded, we decided to leave her alone in there with Luna," Yin explains. "In fact, it was Luna's idea to begin with."

"I think it will be fine," says Alice.

"Either that," Fava says, fluttering in close to the group. "Or she's already murdered!"

"D-Do not say that!" Alice snaps back.

"Sorry, sorry. Just joking."

"Luna may not be all that strong, but she is wise," Yin says. "I trust her instincts."

You lean back against the wall by the door. "Then we wait."

As said, the group waits together just outside the shop. Over half an hour longer passes by, though the quiet is rather comforting all things considered. A lot is about to happen, and while you feel comforted by the affection of those who surround you, it's nice to take some time to simply listen to the wind before an actual war begins. You're lost in thought when the door turns open.

Luna strolls out first, garbed in a deep blue and gold dress. Her heels tap against the step just outside her doorway, and she looks to the small audience awaiting her return. "Thank you for your patience," she says. "Allie appreciates it as well."

"Allie?" you ask.

"Indeed. Come, Allie. The air is crisp, but your new clothing will keep you warm and comfy, even in the autumn breeze." She then speaks quieter as she holds her hand up to the side of her mouth. "But don't worry, everyone. It's still rather cute."

Emerging from the shop is what appears like a brand new woman. The first thing you notice is her hair. The right side has been shaved, and her dark green hair is now combed down the opposite way. Her gold and brown outside looks more like a skin-tight one piece swimsuit at first, though at her waist is a black skirt. Beneath that, dark leggings covering her legs. She has a cloak to match, which falls over her shoulders and covers down past her rear. The belt that keeps on her skirt holds a number of small satchels, and her feet are covered by leather boots.

"Wow. You look amazing. Like an entirely new person," you say. "Allie, was it?"

"... Yes," she speaks quietly, and averts her eyes as she does. "Thank you."

"So it's true after all. ALICEs are self-aware."

"Some serve. Some do not. Those who do not are discarded. It is truly a miracle that you are alive," she says, glancing straight at Alice. "Yet you are walking proof of this self-awareness. The world outside is strange and frightening, though--" She stops and thinks to herself silently.

"You want to see it, right?" you ask. "It'll be easier, when it's a world without Elok Daven."

"I need time. Am I going back to the dungeons?"

"No. Hey, Yin? I'd like you to take her to Laira's next. She needs a weapon to defend herself on the road."

"Yes, Master!" Yin salutes. She then offers a hand. This time, to your surprise, Allie takes it. The two of them proceed back down the road.

Fava lands on your shoulder and whispers into your ear. "Are you sure about this? We keep letting prisoners go."

"There's no value in keeping a bunch of people in jail. Plus, Allie is proving my theory. The ALICEs can be turned," you explain. "If enough of them can be convinced Elok and Breiah are shitty people, maybe they'll go rogue. They can be like the insectrin. Not evil, just choosing who they serve. They need to be shown there are more choices than one. Not just to serve, but to live how they wish."

Alice wraps her arm slowly around yours and pulls herself in close. "You are... the best," she whispers, slipping her fingers over your palm before grasping your hand tight.

You reach over and run the back of your hand down through her hair. "Your people are going to be free, Alice. You always worry you're too much like them, but it's the others who should become more like you."

What do you do?
