Charlotte Opens up the App

When Charlotte opened the Gem Ladies App, she saw the main screen of the App for the first time. The main screen was pretty bland and uninspired. Just black and white text, the only thing of note was a timer at top of the screen informing her that in 40 seconds her game would start automatically. There was only one other thing on the screen, a button for info. She clicked on the info button and was taken to a new screen with the following text:

“Gem Ladies Beta Version .15 - Match 3 Puzzle Game for Mobile Phones - Rules: A game will automatically start every eight hours. The object of the game is to score more than 1000 points before the two minute timer runs out. If a user loses the game, the user will have to choose between three different punishments. If a user wins a game, a user can remove up to three punishments. If a user does not participate in a game, a user will receive three random punishments at once. A list of current punishments can be found on this page: None”

Before Charlotte could fully grasp the Info section, the game automatically took over the screen and started. Charlotte tried her best, in the two minute time limit she had to pass a score of 1000, but only managed to get 800 when the timer ran out. A notification informed her she had lost and gave her an option of three punishments to choose from. The three options were “Fair Share”, “Laboratory Subject” and “Doll Mode”

“What in the absolute fuck” Charlotte said outloud. She was confused on what exactly the options meant. She thought about not clicking anything, but figured whoever programmed this app had probably thought about that. And indeed, after she hadn’t clicked on any option for about a minute, a timer at the top informed her she now had 30 seconds to choose one of the options, or the game would choose for her. She thought the option “Fair Share” sounded the least creepy, so she clicked on it.
