Chapter 4: The Discussion with Keith

Chapter 6 by NudeBare NudeBare

It took her six more months to actually do it.

Heather had planned everything. She'd rehearsed the words a hundred times in her head, each variation falling short, each attempt ending in silence. She'd written a letter, then deleted it. She'd made a list of talking points, then lost it. She'd promised herself a dozen times that today would be the day, only to watch the sun set with nothing said.

But tonight was different.

Tonight, Keith had noticed something was wrong. He'd asked, gently, and she'd seen the worry in his eyes. She couldn't keep hurting him like this. She couldn't keep pretending.

"We need to talk," she said.

They were on the couch, wine glasses in hand, the TV muted on a show neither of them cared about. Keith set his glass down and turned to face her, his expression open and concerned.

"I'm listening."

She couldn't look at him. She stared at her hands, at the wedding ring on her finger, and tried to find the words.

"I've been hiding something from you," she began. "For a long time. Years, maybe. I didn't... I didn't know how to tell you. I didn't think you'd understand."

Keith reached out and took her hand, his touch warm and steady. "Heather, whatever it is, you can tell me. I love you. Nothing's going to change that."

She laughed, a hollow sound that surprised her. "You say that now."

"I mean it."

She took a deep breath, and then she said it. All of it. The fantasies. The shame. The voice that wouldn't stop. The longing to be owned. The desire to surrender. The need to be property.

Keith didn't interrupt. He just listened, his face carefully neutral, his grip on her hand never wavering.

When she was done, she looked at him, terrified of what she might see. "I understand if you want to leave. I understand if you think I'm crazy. I just... I couldn't keep pretending."

He was silent for a long moment. Then he said, "Heather, I don't think you're crazy."

She blinked. "What?"

"I don't think you're crazy," he repeated. "And I don't want to leave you. I'm... I'm shocked. I'm confused. But I love you. And I want to understand."

She started to cry. "You do?"

He pulled her into his arms. "Of course I do. You're my wife. I'm not going to abandon you just because you told me the truth. That's not how love works."

"But... what I want. What I need. It's not... it's not normal."

He pulled back and looked at her, his expression thoughtful. "I don't care about normal. I care about you. And if this is what you need, then I want to figure out how to give it to you."

She stared at him, uncomprehending. "You... you can't mean that."

"I mean it," he said. "But I need time. I need to understand what you're asking. I need to process this. Can you give me that?"

She nodded, unable to speak.

"Then let's take it slow," he said. "Let's talk. Let's figure this out together. You're not alone in this, Heather. You never were."

She fell into his arms, sobbing with relief. For the first time in her life, she felt hope.
