Carrie talks to Jane

“Heads!” says Carrie looking at the coin on the table in front of her. “The universe is making up for all the times I threw tails yesterday.”

She looks around the restaurant. Spotting where Jane is she beckons her over.

Jane quickly arrives at your table.

“You know how you asked if there was anything more you could do to make us more comfortable?” she asks.

“Yes,” says Jane.

“And I’m pretty sure you overheard our conversations earlier, didn’t you?”

Jane nods.

“So you know that I caught him jerking off for a co-worker this morning?”

She nods again. This conversation now has Jane’s full attention.

“And that made me wonder what it would be like to see him fuck another woman. Is that a strange thing to think?”

Jane thinks about Carrie’s question for a moment.

“I don’t think so,” she starts. “We all have so many thoughts bubbling around in our heads. We just work very hard to keep them in there most of the time.”

The all feels like it’s happening in slow motion. You can’t believe that Carrie is having this conversation with the waitress in front of you.

“So when I had that thought I tossed this coin,” says Carrie holding up the coin to show it to Jane.

Jane takes the coin from Carrie’s fingers.

“And what did tossing the coin mean?” she asks.

Carrie smiles at her. “Well if it was heads I was going to call you over and ask you if you would consider fucking my boyfriend in front of me. I’ve found tossing the coin makes it feel that it’s not really my decision.”

“That’s a really interesting approach,” says Jane still holding the coin. “How does it feel when you toss the coin?”

“Well for me when I toss it I don’t really think of what I want the outcome to be. I get to let go of having to weigh up the pros and cons. I can just get to the answer quickly. And when I get the answer that’s straightforward as well. I just do what the coin tells me.

“But your mileage may be different and there’s only one way to find out.” Carrie finishes her explanation and waits to see how Jane responds.

You can hardly breathe with the anticipation.
