"Look here," Jack said, flipping through. He had been looking the book over for a few minutes now, seeing the options. "Like Sam said, we can summon up something to do magic for us. Or to teach us. There's a lot of options in here."

Sam leaned over and looked. Each page in the section of the book Jack had open detailed a different creature that, prior to today, he thought was made up. Demons, fey, goblins, djinn... the list just kept going.

"Which do we summon?" Sam asked. He was met with radically different answers from each of his friends. When they finally quieted, he sighed.

"Fuck," Luke said.

"How do we decide?" Alex asked.

"Why do we need to?" Jack asked. "Why don't we each pick one and go with that?"

"What?" Sam asked, his eyes going wide as Jack ripped a page from the book. "What the fuck, dude?"

"Each page has instructions for one creature, right? Front and back? We can borrow them this way and bring them back once we've done our stuff."

"Why didn't you just take a picture?" Sam asked. Jack locked up for a moment, then sheepishly smirked and shrugged. Sam sighed again and considered.

"It could be risky... doing something like this on our own..." Alex said.

He was right, Alex knew. It could be, but... the fire thing had been simple and hadn't blown up in their faces. Could it really be so bad?
