Beep-beep-beep-beep-beep!

The incessant beeping of my alarm wakes me up early the next morning. I yawn as I turn it off and get out of bed. Still in my nightgown I head to the bath. To my surprise I see Lisa come out of it wrapped in a white towel.

“Morning, Marie! Sleep well?” She greets me.

“Morning, Lisa! Yes, I slept quite well.” I reply as I stifle another yawn.

“Looks like you need a shower to fully wake up. You do that, and I'll get started on breakfast.”

“Thanks, Lisa.”

I take a cold shower to fully wake up, get dressed, and join my roommate just as she finishes breakfast.

“I have two things I need to tell you,” I begin as I sit down and wait for her to serve breakfast, “First, I bought Public Unawareness.”

“You did? Awesome!” Lisa grins, visibly excited, and puts a plate in front of me.

“And second, I am going to give you a quest I have given you previously, as a little experiment.”

“Sure, fine with me. Which one?”

Instead of explaining I pick up my phone, open the app, and give her the quest.

“Yeah, it is,” I agree, “I guess it's to encourage me to come up with new quests instead of repeating old ones. At least the time until I can give you a new quest is halved, so it's not all bad.”

“Well, since this is meant to be an experiment...” she kisses me on the cheek and a moment later I get the completion notification:

“Not yet. I'll come up with something after the meeting.”

We move on from the app and chat about other things as we eat. When we are finished I go to get dressed into something more presentable while Lisa takes care of the dishes.

“Ready to go?” Lisa asks me when it is finally time to head out. I take a deep breath in an attempt to calm down, my heart beating fast in my chest in a mix of worry and anticipation, and nod. “Alright, let's go. Try not to worry – you've got this, Marie!” she encourages me as we head out and down to her waiting car. Soon we are off to the meeting.

I wake up early in the morning, before my alarm triggers. I shower, eat a quick breakfast, get dressed, do one last check to make sure I have packed everything I was going to, call a taxi, and head to the airport. Once there I need to wait just five minutes before I can board the plane.

Soon I am sitting at my assigned seat as the plane lifts into the sky. To my pleasant surprise the seat next to mine is empty, so no one to annoy me during the flight. I lean back and relax as I look out the window at the clear sky.

We reach the address with time to spare. Lisa stays in the car while I go in and speak to a receptionist – a young woman with long pale blonde hair that seems to be a couple of years younger than me. She checks, confirms that I really do have an appointment, and directs me where to wait until the young Mr. Morrison is ready to see me.

As I take a seat and wait until the agreed-upon time I go over what I know. “Jackson, Howardson and Morrison” is a small but quite successful publishing house, named after its three founders. Brian Morrison is the grandson of one of the founders, giving him more freedom but also more responsibilities and higher expectations. His wife Sarah is actually related to Jackson Sr., one of the other two founders. A successful deal with Brian should be a great start to my writing carrier...

Ten minutes pass before a young man leaves Brian's office, but the secretary does not tell me to go in; instead she leaves me waiting for another five before it is finally my turn. At least the wait helps me calm down and focus.

Brian's office is small but feels rather... cozy, I think is the best word. In the center is a large wooden desk, possibly mahogany, Brian sitting behind it, an empty wooden chair in front of it. Behind him, on the wall is a portrait of an old rich-looking gentleman, possibly his grandfather. To the left and right of the portrait are two large windows that let plenty of light inside. Shelves are on the left and right.

“Good day, Ms. Fisher. Please, have a seat,” Brian smiles at me and points at the empty chair.

As I sit down I take a good look at the person I will be negotiating with. Brian is a well-dressed young man, only a few years older than me, with slick brown hair and brown eyes. He's wearing an expensive-looking suit. His face seems a little flushed.

At first I do not notice anything out of the ordinary, but as we talk I become aware of a... sound coming from under Brian's desk. At first I can't place it, but as the conversation progresses Brian's face grows ever redder, his breathing grows labored, and it finally clicks. Once the contract is signed we shake hands, say our goodbyes, and then I leave, heading straight for the parking lot where Lisa is waiting for me.

“Welcome back! How did it go?” Lisa asks as soon as I open the car's door.

“Mission successful,” I tell her as I sit down and take out my phone, “but now I am really horny. I will need your help once we get back.”

“Oh? Did something happen?” my roommate raises an eyebrow as she starts the car and drives out of the parking lot.

“I'll tell you later, after I am not so horny,” I reply as I open the app. I see I have a notification, but I ignore it in favor of giving Lisa her new quest. The meeting with Brian took more than two hours, so she is available. I quickly write the objectives and pick her reward:

The flight ends without issue and I get off the plane, happy to be on the ground once more. I get my luggage, make sure nothing is missing, then call a taxi and head to the hotel. My reservation is confirmed, I check in and get shown to my room.

It's a pretty nice room, with a large double bed, an old-looking wardrobe, and a bath, bathtub included. I lie down for a bit, relaxing after the trip, then get up, put on a purple dress with a long skirt, and head out.

Again I call a taxi and head toward the place where Lisa and her cute roommate live. Time to surprise them... I just hope they are not out – that is my one worry...
