Basketball with Dani

As you file out of your latest class, your phone pings, almost loudly, with a message alert. Pulling it out, you quickly see that it’s come from Dani—another date, or, at the very least, an opportunity for another date.

Hey! Sorry to ask on such short notice, but I just spotted Matt playing basketball on the outdoor court. Care to make our next date a game date?

You quickly type out your response—fast enough, almost, that no notification appears on her end.

Sure thing. Be there in ten!

There’s enough of a crowd in the hallways that it’s a bit of a struggle to get through, but you manage to slide between a gaggle of sorority girls and another of frat guys, racing ahead, and working up a decent pre-sweat in the process, as you make it out of the building, quickly breaking for the only half-decent outdoor court on campus.

Dani’s waiting there, by the side of the cage around the court, smiling, her blonde hair done up into a bun, wearing tight shorts and a white t-shirt—the sort of outfit that makes sense for a basketball date, but also has the side-effect of highlighting all her best assets.

Matt is over on the other side of the court with another guy you haven’t met before, the two of them just going for a classic game of one-on-one, though it’s obvious that there’s something in the way he’s playing that he both wants to impress Dani, and is suddenly conscious of your arrival.

“Glad you could make it, Alex!” she says, loudly enough, it seems, to attract Matt’s attention—which is rewarded with an easy steal on the part of his partner.

“So am I,” you reply, walking with her over to the court, opposite Matt. He stands at the top of the key as Dani takes her place closer to the free-throw line.

She checks the ball to you first, and you take it to the rim immediately, breezing by her position—novice, you could be sure, judging by how stiff she was in it.

After making the easy layup the first time, Dani’s novice defence proves a little too distracting (and the way she seems to jiggle ever so slightly in that tank proves a boon too), and her hand lands on the ball, tearing it away from you.

She takes the ball, and this time, slowly begins to back towards the rim, grinning playfully with each glance towards you, as her body’s bent against yours, and taking, in equal measure, some more serious glances towards Matt.

You can’t help but thrust, gently, against her—and it proves to be Matt’s undoing, as the quietest of moans escaped Dani’s lips—though not enough to distract you.

Matt, though, is entirely distracted. As the last shot by his partner clanged off the rim, he’s still staring at the date across from him.

“Fuck!” he suddenly shouts, getting beaned in the head by a particularly tough rebound—which distracts you just long enough to let Dani spin around and get the sort of beginners’ luck shot off that she was bound to get.

As he starts to walk away, a clearly muttered phrase is heard—both by you and Dani—“…perfect girlfriend…”.

Her eyes widen, suddenly, an almost tremulous expression coming over her face, her nose, her smile quivering slightly, almost breaking towards a smile.

“This is it, right?” she asks you, staring up, then quickly back towards Matt, who seemed to be taking his sweet time walking away, excitedly.
