BR Day 4 - Be honest with Beth

You sit with Beth. The weekend is supposed to be a break. You tell her what Michelle told you.

"A captain? A captain of what?" she asks.

"She wouldn't tell me." A team, obviously, but you still don't know what it's all about.

"You deserve it," Beth says and nudges you with her elbow. "You and Lara are the only two out there who can handle Adella. You three should be pro already."

It's not true, and Beth knows that... so she must be saying it out of defensiveness. She's definitely hurt that she is not a captain. The only player at camp with better numbers than Beth is Duni... that is the thing about you and Adella. You are powerful attackers, but that is all you are good for. Beth can do everything, like Duni. If anyone should be a captain, it should be her... but Beth didn't go viral for scoring a flashy goal. You did that.

So you are the captain, not her.

She can't completely hide her disappointment. She seems down, and says nothing for a while. You want to put your arm around her, but that might not be a good idea, so you wait.

"There must be a lot of marketing and stuff," Beth muses, staring at the empty fireplace. "You're prettier than I am."

You laugh. "Yeah right," you say.

She gives you a weird look. "Riley, do you seriously not know how cute you are?"

"Girls never noticed me," you say. It's true...

"But the boys did, didn't they?"

"I don't want boys," you say, indignant.

Beth snorts. "Do you Americans believe in a thing called irony?" she asks.

"Never heard of it."

"Right. Will you still like me when you're famous?"

Beth is the one who doesn't realize how in love you are. You have always had a bad habit of going completely nuts for girls who didn't even know your name. Your first girlfriend? Someone as cute and fun as Beth? You have known her for a few days and you already fantasize about marrying her and growing old together.

"Yes," you say.

She sticks her lips out, and you lean down to kiss her.

"Fine," she says, rolling her eyes and snuggling up to you. "Be the captain, then. But you better make the most of me. Between us, we can take Adella."

"Easily," you agree.

It looks like Michelle was right to worry... but Beth can handle it. After a while she perks up a little, and shares some of her observations about Adella, strategizing to beat her. Beth noticed two things: 1. Adella, never backs down from anything, and 2. Adella always shoots, no matter how bad the situation. This is why in addition to having excellent scoring numbers... Adella also has a lot of stopped shots.

Beth is as smart as she is fast. She makes good observations on the pitch. It hurts to admit it... but she really would make a better captain than you. You are a dumbass when it comes to girls, but you aren't stupid in normal life things... but Beth is actually smart. You have a feeling you will lean on her heavily when you are captain of the team.

You eat dinner together as the rumors circulate about this new league and how supposedly a bunch of scouts are going to be on the pitch on Monday to watch your training and start making lists. Everyone is talking about how they are going to rest up tonight and tomorrow. Monday is going to be a competitive day...

After dinner, all the girls gather in the fireplace room to watch scary movies about high school girls getting stabbed. It's not the most romantic, but you and Beth cuddle with hot chocolate and watch with them. You DO like movies with boobs, and these movies have... lots of them. Beth notices and laughs.

It's pretty late by the time the second movie is getting to the end. A lot of the girls have gone to bed, but there are still some around. Beth tickles your chin and whispers in your ear that she has always wanted to make out by a fire on a rug like that one over there.

You know what she means by that. Everyone will go to bed... so you will be alone down here, but it is kind of exposed. It seems risky, especially after what Michelle said to you today. On the other hand, Beth really seems to want it.

Make out with Beth on the rug in the main room after the others go to bed?
