How will Azazel's story begin?
Azazel receives a new, secret assignment...
The Helltaker's house had become a non-stop party zone, hosting all kinds of demon debauchery. Azazel played witness to it all, taking generous notes and doodling sketches upon her pad like a devoted angel, while snooping through people's affairs and belongings for additional info. Her assignment had never been so exciting before! Seeing the demons out of their natural elements, playing girlfriend with the Helltaker, had given her all kinds of new insights, not just on their characters, but even on demons' scandalous techniques when it came to courtship and love-making. It was all very hot and steamy stuff. Well... some of it was. A lot of it was just playing video games and making pancakes.
Still, these moments were joys in their own right. Azazel resolved that she'd spend as long as she could, crashing at the Helltaker's place and spying on all of his guests.
On this fine morning, with a pep in her step and a jog in her walk, Azazel swung her fists merrily and whistled a tune, heading to answer the front door. She had to pull her weight somehow, after all; performing basic chores that the demons were too lazy to do was one way she could pay for all the free meals. "Comii~iiing," she sang, then grabbed the doorknob and flung open the door. The mailman watched her awkwardly, then asked for a signature on a package. He still hadn't gotten used to this house being full of demons... plus one angel. "Thank you kindly! Heaven awaits to award those who are meek, my good mailman!" She waved goodbye with a big smile on her face, then gathered up the mail and brought it to the table to be sorted.
Of course, with the exception of those who needed to order online items to feed their habits and vices, most of the demons here didn't have personal addresses listed anywhere. Azazel herself didn't. For this reason, her wide eyes grew yet larger when she noticed an inconspicuous piece of mail with her name on it, written large in fancy cursive. Who could have written her?
She might have guessed... it was heaven, calling her back in for a report. It had been so long since she'd actually given one in person, she almost forgot she'd eventually be called back for that purpose. The angel gave a deep, dissatisfied groan, thoughsomehow without losing her perpetual smile... Heaven was boring! Sure, there were hot girls and guys in heaven too, but there wasn't any of this kind of swinging, exciting lifestyle to be found there. Wearing a less peppy than ordinary frown, Azazel pocketed the letter, then took off from the house and flew into the air, propelling herself into the clouds. The mailman watched Azazel ascend and disappear into the clouds with a disbelieving expression, his mouth agape.
Azazel gave her report enthusiastically, but there was just too much to go over. "And so, when he came to the really long line of skeletons, the Helltaker couldn't find any rocks to kick. We watched him kick skeletons for a while, but eventually he realized you have to go around the skeletons and cut in line!" The angel pantomimed looking around the broad shoulders of a skeletal minion, then jogging around to its side. "Brilliant! You'd never have expected to see such ingenuity from a mortal man!"
"Enough!" The Archangel, dressed in her white military fetish gear, snapped a leather crop down atop the startlingly white desk of her blindingly white office to demand Azazel's attention. "Your report has made one thing abundantly clear... The situation is far worse than we thought."
The angel underling stopped mid-jog, then blinked her eyes in confusion. "What's so bad about it? If anything, the Helltaker's keeping all of those demons contained by himself. It seems like a real victory for us-"
"It's not a victory!" The whip snapped again as the Archangel shot up to her feet, clenching her fists furiously and frowning deeply. "Think about it! What are people going to think when they see that man parading his demons all around town? They're going to think, 'oh, who needs heaven? Seems like hell's pretty great to me!' Then they're going to stop praying or offering any piety and they'll live their lives like pagans! This is an absolute crisis!"
Azazel jumped as the woman cracked her whip again just for the sake of it. "Yes ma'am, I see now ma'am!" the jumpy angel snapped a sharp salute, standing up straight with one hand crossed behind her back. "What should I do now, ma'am?!"
"Fix it! You should have realized early on that you were losing the reigns of the situation. That's when you should have stepped in and stopped this snowball from rolling!" The leader of the angels sighed deeply, pressing one hand over her face and shaking her head in a frustrated gesture. "There's only one thing to do now: you're going to have to become the Helltaker-taker."
"... W-Was that a joke, ma'am?"
"It was not a joke!" The senior officer bent her whip in both hands and grimaced. "Your new mission is as follows: win the Helltaker back from those demons! You have to prove that angels are still preferable to demons in all realms. All realms. Do you understand, Azazel?"
"Y-Yes ma'am... However... If I were to ask just one question..."
"Then you'd ask it quickly, preferably." The Archangel snarled.
