Automanipulator

The automanipulator is a powerful but limited tool available to only a handful of people in the cybergnostic world. It allows the user to alter anything about themselves. This is limited to themselves; they can't change anything about the world or the other people in it.

Some basic examples of things the user can change are height, appearance, age, or sex. They can go beyond the superficial, though, making themselves charming, loyal, religious, funny, or creative. Any description that can reasonably applied to a human being can be applied using the device.

Let's take Larry as an example. If he worries that he might misuse it, he can make himself forget about it. If he's sceptical, he can make himself believe in it. If he's lonely, he can become an introvert. Larry could make himself charming, ugly, happy, cruel, or cynical. He could instantly turn drunk or sober, see the world through the eyes of a sociopath or a cultist, or even cease to exist.

In short, Larry has total power over himself.
