Asking For It Act

Unbeknownst to Vanessa, a new law had been enacted that will directly affect her life. It was the controversial Asking For It Act, or AFIA for short. The law is meant to combat the rise in false claims of sexual ****, although the supporters could not name a source for this supposed rise. The states that “Any woman who is logically deemed to look or act in a way that is intended to elicit a sexual response from another person, cannot press charges, as any act committed under such circumstances has implied consent from the woman.” Which basically means that if a woman is dressed or acts in a provocative manner, they are responsible for the reaction of others. This lead to a wave of sex crime across the county, that Vanessa is completely clueless about. The need for a definitive way to decide if a woman is affected by AFIA, the local government created the Sex Appeal Indicatory, or SAI for short. It is automatically installed on the phone of every citizen in the town. It is this, that Vanessa receives a new letter about.

Two weeks after the first letter, Vanessa is minding her own business, relaxing in her living room. The day couldn’t be going better, when Vanessa hears something fall on the inside of her door. Making her way over to check it out, Vanessa saw another envelop on the ground. Feeling a little worried about her choice to throw out the other one without reading it carefully, Vanessa takes the envelope and opens it. Inside she finds another letter about something called the AFIA, and an update to it. Something along the line of having degrees of effect, meaning that what actions are allowed are dependent on the rating a girl receives. Vanessa was completely lost, not sure what this could be talking about. It then switches to talking about an app called SAI that was automatically put on her phone. It says that all women should use the app before leaving home to ensure they are aware of their rating, and that the app must be used before acting on the AFIA, as it will be used as evidence of compliance with AFIA regulations. Honestly, Vanessa was super lost by the end of the letter, tossing it in the trash. She had no idea what this AFIA was or why she should care about her rating. However, all this reading about going outside made Vanessa realize she hasn’t gone out to do anything for a while. Maybe is was about time she rejoins the world.
