What's next?
Ask after Raccoon
“Layla, why was there a raccoon in your room?”
A shuffling sound comes from the other side of the door, then a voice. “I-I left the window open and,…” Ethan hears her slide against the door, sitting against it. “Half my lunch. Ethan… I’m so sorry.”
Ethan doesn't really know what to say to that. “You have nothing to apologize for…” Ethan’s pretty sure he hears a snort from the other side of the door. “I didn't even think a raccoon could climb up the side of a house.”
“What? No, Ethan, you-” she sighs, suddenly sounding exhausted. “Thank you, Ethan. Really, but… would you please leave? I can explain… me, later. I promise.”
Sighing, Ethan takes a step away from the door. “Okay, I’m leaving now…”
No response.
Glancing back over his shoulder, Ethan does as she asks and walks away, but only after taking a moment to close all the windows first.
