Ask David for His Help

With Clara still peacefully asleep beside you, you carefully retrieve your phone again and open your messaging app. The screen illuminates your face with a soft blue glow as you navigate to David's contact. Your fingers hover over the keyboard for a moment before you begin typing:

"David, I need your help tomorrow. Clara invited me to her office for lunch, but Becky's given me some... challenging tasks. Could you meet us there? Maybe pretend you're dropping something off? I could use backup."

You hit send and wait, wondering if he's even awake at this hour. To your surprise, the response comes almost immediately, the phone vibrating in your hand:

"Still up. Researching stuff. What kind of tasks? How bad?"

You bite your newly plumped lower lip, considering how much to reveal:

"Last one involves going down on Clara IN HER OFFICE with the door unlocked! I can't do that!"

Three dots appear, disappear, then reappear as David seems to struggle with his response:

"Jesus. That app's getting worse. Look, I have a lunch meeting near Clara's bank tomorrow anyway. I can stop by around 1:30. Maybe we can fake something?"

Relief washes over you. Having David there might make the impossible task at least somewhat manageable—perhaps you could stage something instead of actually risking Clara's career.

"Thank you! You're a lifesaver. Clara mentioned lunch in the cafeteria. Meet us there?"

"Will do. Try to get some sleep, Mia."

You notice how naturally he uses your new name now, as if Matt is already fading from his memory. You place the phone back on the nightstand and turn to look at Clara, who stirs slightly in her sleep. Her arm tightens around your waist possessively, pulling your transformed body closer to hers.

As you settle back against the pillows, you can't help but wonder how tomorrow will unfold. The emerald bracelet on your wrist catches the dim light as you move, a reminder of your growing connection to Clara even as the app pushes you toward increasingly risky behavior.

You close your eyes, trying to calm your racing mind. Between Clara's warmth beside you and the promise of David's help tomorrow, you might just make it through another day of this bizarre new reality.
