As you’ll ever be.

You’re being rattled around inside your cryo-pod, looking through the tiny window in front of your face as your cabin goes pitch black. Suddenly, you see a red light, wait no, it’s orange. Wait, it’s fire.

You watch the room around you come alight as smoke fills the air. Thankfully, the smoke doesn’t seem to enter the cryo-pod, but the walls start to get really warm.

Suddenly, you get jerked backwards, your head slams the metal behind it, and you’re out cold.

A sudden pain in your leg jerks you awake. As you come to, you look down at your legs to see that a piece of metal had sheared a hole in your cryo pod, and cut you across your right thigh. It didn’t cut too deep. You can’t see out the soot-caked window of the cryo-pod, but you can see daylight shining through by your legs. You push the emergency door release and it blasts off with a tiny explosion at the hinges.

You see palm fronds waving above you. A blue sky above that, and in that sky, thousands upon thousands of pieces of wreckage raining down through the atmosphere alight with flame. Lines of smoke weave themselves through an otherwise cloudless sky. You can hear the sound of waves nearby.

You sit up, and squint as your eyes adjust to the light. You hear a sudden beep on your wrist. Looking down, you see that your standard issue smartwatch has activated itself, and seems to be pinging you with a flashing blue light.

You ignore it for now, and attempt to push yourself up. You rise into a sitting position and take a look around.

You’re on a beach. A beach with white colored sand, emerald waters that sparkle in the sunshine, and a thick jungle that fades in as the beach slopes up towards it. It’s so impossible to believe, it looked like a scene out of a movie. A really old one though, because you haven’t seen anything like this on earth growing up. You’ve been to the holo-parks and experienced what a beach felt like, but a real beach on earth was no longer a possibility. The earth you know is a polluted, toxic world, that many people say won’t make it to 2350. That’s why you’re here in the first place.

You remember that you’re in a pretty pressing situation, so you return to the matters at hand.
