An out-of-body experience

Time stood still as I watched myself kissing Faith. It was a strange sensation, as I could feel the sensations my body was experiencing while also seemingly observing from afar. This had never happened to me before, so it was pretty disorienting at first. As I looked upon our passionate embrace, however, a single thought rose from within my soul to the forefront of my consciousness:

- Faith is the best girlfriend I could ever ask for -

That thought then seemed to radiate out into the world, making everything seem to pulse, then burn brightly, then fade away...

...

...

And I was back in my own body again, staring into Faith's eyes as we remained locked together.

"Geez, get a room, you lovebirds", I heard from behind me. Recognizing the voice, I turned around to find the source: one of my oldest, closest friends snickering to herself.

"Hey, Danni", I said. "Enjoying the show?"

"Well, the first act was a little slow for my liking but, boy, what a climax!" She was now openly laughing at her own innuendo.

Danni was a fairly tall girl, standing just below my own height at 5'10". She had a chubby build, but from her attitude and fashion sense you'd think she was a professional runway model. Today she was wearing an orange long-sleeved crop top and black high-waisted jeans, which really brought out her amber eyes against her ebony skin and long cornrow braids. She was also the least shameless person I knew when it came to talking about sex.

As Danni carried on laughing, I looked back at Faith to see she was looking at the ground and her whole face was flushed red, obviously embarrassed. I whispered to her, "It's okay" before turning back to address Danni again. I asked her, "Are you ready for auditions today?" attempting to change the subject.

"Yes, sir", Danni stated proudly, "especially since Little Miss Perfect isn't around to steal the spotlight anymore."

That girl she was referring to was Gabrielle Kim, who graduated last year in the class above ours. Born to a Korean father and French Creole mother, Gabrielle had been cast as the lead in nearly every one our school's theatre productions since I'd known her. She was certainly talented and had a lovely soprano voice, but she also looked the part to be the perfect ingenue: pretty face, tight body and just enough curves to remind you she was a woman. Most of the guys at school used to drool over her and, while I'd never admit it in front of present company, she was also a frequent flyer in my own fantasies.

As the bus pulled up and came to a stop in front of us, I reassured Danni "You're going to do great."

"Boy, you act like I don't already know that", she chided back as she ascended the steps into the bus, quickly plopping down next to her girlfriend.

Faith and I followed suit, managing to find an open seat toward the back of the vehicle where we could sit together. Once the bus started moving, I turned to talk to her but she seemed lost in thought, still blushing from before. So instead, I just put my arm around her shoulder and held her close as we rolled through the suburban sprawl towards our destination.
