An offer

You were able to take a few days to recoup after the whole ordeal. You actually even ended up with a cold. You were on-edge at home, though. As Tegan took care of you, guilt started to build. You wanted to put it all behind you, maybe even convince yourself it was a dream.

She was texting you more than she had before, but one could easily excuse that after what the two of you had been through. On more than one occasion, she'd called you her Knight again — both via text and in the office. You'd been able to explain it away as you having helped her with a project and she considered you a knight in shining armor.

It was a flimsy excuse, but it worked. Tegan even let another detail slip about the past few days. Apparently, Jake had found her on Facebook and reached out. She panicked and ran to find you. Afterwards, she told him to leave her alone since you were protecting her.

Which led to the text you'd received:
• Sup, fucker. It's Jake. Listen, let's cut to the chase: I had this huge plan to fuck you over, but I figured I could kill two birds with one stone here. I want Dillon back. She's my property and I don't like sharing. If you give her back to me, I'll consider us square from high school and I'll leave you and yours alone forever. Think it over.

That wasn't a bad reward... Not that you had been worried about him, but knowing that he had something planned, stopping it before it happened seemed like the best bet . The only thing was... you needed to give him Dillon. After everything she'd shared with you, could you really save your own skin so selfishly?
