An interrupted morning

Chapter 8 by Stormdragon19

Alex had woken up feeling pretty good. After getting Lucy's clothes signed, they did find out that putting both Lucy's and his own name on the key pouch did let her bring them into his Requip pocket with her. That meant he could basically transport her in there whenever he needed to. It was a good thing to know he could do, given they were going to be working as mages from here on out.

Now, he was in the kitchen working on some eggs and bacon for breakfast. Lucy was taking a bath, so he had taken it upon himself to make breakfast. She had made the offer for him to join her, but no. He wasn't prepared for that. Not yet...

"Yummy, can you make fish~?"

"I guess, why do you want-" I turned my head.

There was a blue cat standing on the counter, munching on some of the already finished bacon.

"...Happy?"

"Aye!"

"Why are you on the kitchen counter eating our breakfast?"

"Natsu brought me. Thank you for the meal!"

"..." Alex just stood there, his brain taking longer than it should to process that information...

"WHY ARE YOU IN OUR HOUSE!?"

Luckily, Lucy's scream snapped him out of it. Grabbing Happy by the neck to keep him from eating any more breakfast, Alex walked into the living room, seeing Natsu sitting on the couch with Lucy standing and staring at him, covered only in a towel.

"Hello." Natsu said with a casual wave, like he and his cat hadn't just committed breaking and entering. Alex pinched his nose with his free hand. This was going to be a thing, wasn't it?

---

Alex had decided to let Lucy scold the two over breaking and entering, deciding to head back to make sure the food didn't burn. Setting up the food for him and Lucy (and, after much thought, lit the edge of a napkin on fire for Natsu, and a small sardine can for Happy), he came back and provided the food, after setting the table. Whatever the reason they were there, they'd get to it eventually. Besides, he knew he wasn't strong enough to kick Natsu out.

Happy looked like he'd go over the horizon with one good kick, but that would be for later.

After a bit of talking, the conversation eventually turned to how everyone's magic worked. Happy's Aera just let him fly by making a pair of wings, and Natsu's Fire Dragon Slayer Magic was basically fire for everything, from creating it, resisting, and eating it for more power. Alex basically did a skimmed down version of my own newly discovered magic (in addition to not knowing much about it yet, I was still uncertain on the ethics and legality of it). And then the topic turned to Lucy and her Celestial Spirit Magic.

"Oh yeah, I just realized I haven't seen you summon anything yet." Alex mused.

"She summoned a Fish lady at the Harbor!" Exclaimed Happy around a full mouth of sardines.

"Yeah, but I was inside the ship at the time. I never actually saw the summoning." Alex clarified before turning to Lucy. "So, what keys do you have?" He had signed her keys earlier, but that didn't mean he could identify them by sight.

"Well, let's see." She replied, pulling out keys and rotating through the ring one at a time. "Well, when it comes to the silver keys, I have the Southern Cross, the Clock, the Lyre, and thanks to my boyfriend~" She interjected with a wink. "...The Canis Minor Key."

"Then we move on to the Gold Keys." Lucy continued, moving to her three golden keys. "This is the Key of The Water Bearer, Aquarius. This one is the key of The Golden Bull, Taurus. And this last one is the Key of the Giant Crab, Cancer."

Natsu and Happy suddenly got really excited about Cancer being a crab for reasons that baffled Alex (something about finishing his sentences with 'crab'?), but this talk did remind him of something. "You know, I don't think I've seen you summon a spirit yet."

"Eh? But Lucy summoned the Fish Lady back at the wharf." Happy tilted his head at him in confusion. Alex shook his head. "No, I was on the boat with Natsu, fighting the slavers." He reminded them before turning back to Lucy. "And since you haven't used the Canis Minor Key..."

"Ah! Gotcha!" Lucy said with a wink, and got up from her seat to pose dramatically. It was at this point that Alex remembered she was still only wearing a towel.

"Open Gate of the Canis Minor! Nikora!"

It didn't fall. She did some dramatic swings and it didn't fall off of her. He didn't know whether to be disappointed or relieved.

Oh yeah, she'd just summoned a Celestial Spirit. He returned his focus to where a flash of light had come from while he was distracted and saw... what looked like a small, half melted snowman, shaking as it stood there.

"...It's okay, you can have another try." Came the chorus of Alex, Natsu, and Happy. Perfectly synchronized without rehearsal, too.

"It's not a mistake!" She shouted back, before kneeling down and patting the little guy on the head. It made a little "Puuu..." noise in response. Lucy then decided to name it Plur before grabbing a day planner and a pen before addressing the spirit. "Does Monday work for you?" Plue nodded. "Tuesday?" A shake this time.

"This seems..." "...Rather plain" Natsu and Happy said as they watched. Alex couldn't help but find himself agreeing with that sentiment a bit. Hopefully the Golden Spirits would be cooler.

Though now that he'd had some time, a question that should have been asked a while ago came to his mind. "Why ARE you two here?" Alex asked as Lucy dismissed Plue.
