Chapter 23
by Spotlesslurker
What should Amber do? She is already broken goods?
Amber goes to the group therapy.
Amber walked into the therapy room, already familiar with the environment. After several sessions, this space had become a safe haven, a place where she could explore her struggles without fear of judgment. The chairs arranged in a circle created a welcoming atmosphere, but today she felt an additional weight in her heart.
The therapist, with a compassionate smile, began the session. “Today, let’s delve deeper into how your identity and desires intertwine. Amber, how are you feeling?”
Amber took a deep breath. “I feel like I’m making progress, but loneliness is still a major challenge for me. My gothic identity is a part of who I am, but I often feel excluded because of it. It gets even more complicated due to my addiction to relationships. I find myself drawn to people whom most would consider repugnant, and that only deepens my sense of isolation.”
Listening to her, the therapist paused, allowing her words to resonate. “How do you feel about seeking those connections? What do they mean to you?”
“I crave intimacy, but I often end up in superficial, self-destructive relationships,” Amber explained, her voice trembling. “It’s like the desire for connection leads me to choices that only heighten my loneliness. I want to be truly loved, but I keep getting involved with people who aren’t healthy for me.”
Lucas, one of the closer participants, chimed in. “I get that. I’ve also sought relationships that left me feeling worse, hoping to find something meaningful. It only intensified my loneliness and confusion.”
Amber nodded. “Exactly. I thought these relationships were an escape, but deep down, I felt even more lost. It’s as if the pursuit of pleasure and validation is a path, but the way I approach it causes me to lose myself even more.”
The therapist then proposed a dynamic exercise. “Let’s share a desire we have, but also something we want to understand better about ourselves. Amber, would you like to start?”
With a slight tremor in her voice, Amber chose to open up. “One of my desires is the search for intimacy, but I often confuse that with sex. I want to be seen and loved, but I end up giving myself to relationships that don’t satisfy me emotionally. That only increases my sense of loneliness.”
The therapist nodded in understanding. “And what do you think could be a healthier way to approach that desire?”
Amber thought for a moment. “Maybe if I focus on building deeper connections rather than seeking instant gratification. I need to learn how to connect emotionally before I give myself physically.”
By the end of the session, Amber felt an unexpected lightness. Though the struggle against her addiction was still present, a path began to emerge before her. She realized that her desires weren’t the problem; the issue lay in how she approached them.
As she left the room, Amber looked out the window, seeing the world with newfound hope. Loneliness was still a part of her journey, but now she knew she had the strength to face it. With a gentle smile on her lips, she felt ready to take risks—not just in her relationships but in truly showing herself. For the first time, she sensed she could build connections based not only on pleasure but on understanding and genuine intimacy.
The end. Very Cute. Therapy is good for you. Hurray!
