Chapter 4 by omaewa omaewa

Who is at the door?

Adam's co-worker is at the door

"Relax," Helen said as she carefully approached the window, "we can just ignore whoever is at the door." Glancing through the window, she saw a professionally dressed young blonde woman waiting outside the door. "See, she's probably just a door-to-door saleswoman. No need to get worked up," Helen replied as she closed the curtains to the window.

While Helen remained calm and collected, Adam was already suffering from another panic attack. "No she's...one of my co-workers."

"Your co-worker?! What is she doing in front of our house during this time of day?" Adam could sense Helen's quiet anger welling inside them, knowing that he had to tread carefully. Adam desperately searched for a sensible response, as he was initially unsure why his co-worker, Chloe, would show up this evening. However, he quickly recalled that Chloe sent him a clandestine message during lunch break today. Apparently, she made a terrible mistake in her software coding, and she needed help in fixing it soon. It was such a big deal that she dared not to disclose to anyone but Adam. In fact, he only knew about this from a message she wrote on a napkin when she handed him his cup of coffee. Being the resourceful employee that he always was, Adam simply nodded at the request. Also, he couldn't help but feel aroused from her appearance, as she was one of the most beautiful ladies working in his company. Despite his constant reprimanding, the arousal felt like a natural reaction,

"Well?" Helen asked sternly, which actually sounded oddly tinny with his voice.

"Look, she's just coming for some help from work. It was a sudden request, so I didn't say anything, but there's really nothing more to it."

"Uh huh." Helen responded apathetically. It was clear that she didn't really buy into Adam's explanation. Adam could only hope that Helen didn't peer too far into his memories for any hidden meanings.

"Well then, I suppose we can't keep *your guest* waiting for too long. How about you tidy yourself up here while I take care of the door?" With that said, Helen's spirit shot out of Adam's body abruptly, leaving Adam cold and naked as he slowly regained his motor control. "Geez, Helen, that was cold of you to leave me here with your mess."

Adam quickly got himself cleaned and dressed before heading out the bedroom. However, he caught sight of Helen's still **** body laying on the office chair in the study. "Helen?" Adam asked in a worrisome tone as he rushed to Helen's corporeal form. "Did the spell malfunction?" Adam thought. However, Helen's body was still breathing, beating, and staying alive. The words in the tome still had a faint glow, suggesting that the spell was still in use.

"Wait, did she?" Fearing what his girlfriend had schemed this time, he rushed back to his bedroom window. Sure enough, Chloe was still standing at the door. However, she was no longer looking in front, as one would expect when waiting at the door. Instead, she sported Helen's signature piercing gaze as she stared at the bedroom window - right back at him! It gave the sense of "What are you still doing up there? Hurry up and open the door!" Adam stood in aghast. The good news was he knew where Helen was. The bad news was he felt almost powerless in this situation, knowing that there was no escaping now.

However, fear quickly turned into anger, as Adam thought, "Not letting you know about the visit was my fault, but outright possessing Chloe without understanding the full story is going a bit too far." He shuddered when he considered that Chloe might potentially be trapped in her own body, **** to be piloted by her angry possessor amidst all her confusion.

"Wait, if it's a spell, can't I give it a try?" Adam exclaimed, a figurative light bulb going off in his head. The more he thought about it, the more Adam agreed that the projection spell was the best way to fix this sticky situation. Quickly ambling back to the study, Adam picked up the tome and started inciting the spell, trying to copy his girlfriend's words. Sure enough, he was more successful this time around, as he felt a shock and a flash upon finishing the incantation. He briefly lost vision and senses before regaining his bearings once more. However, he felt...light, as if the weight on his shoulders had literally been lifted. Opening his eyes, Adam saw that he was no longer firmly planted on the ground. Instead, he found his **** body sprawled on the floor in a similar manner to Helen's. A closer look revealed that a bruise was forming on his forehead, presumably due to the impact of his head hitting the desk as he fell. "Ooo.. that is going to hurt," Adam mumbled.

But hopefully his body will be fine for the time being, as Adam quickly shifted attention to his newfound abilities. Copying all of Helen's actions in her spirit form, Adam felt the exhilaration of a free-flowing spirit. "Wow, this is so much fun!" Adam exclaimed as he whizzed around the room, conventional physics be damned.

But soon enough, Adam started shivering, realizing that he was starting to miss the warmth of a corporeal form. Settling down from his flight, he thought of his options. His straightforward option was his girlfriend's vacant body. Since Helen already gave his body a spin, it would only be fair for Adam to take hers for a while, right?

However, a more interesting idea was to try to possess Chloe's body outside, even with Helen's spirit inside. Adam recalled reading that the spell was intended for 'battles of wit', where users would fight within minds to determine who had the stronger mindpower. Perhaps Adam could reenact the same with Chloe and Helen, where he could try ousting Helen from Chloe's bodily confines. But his one concern was that the tome was vague on the fate of the loser and the host. Would the loser simply be ejected from the body, or suffer a more horrible outcome? Would the host of the body be impacted as well?

Of course, the last option would be to return to his body and confront his girlfriend/co-worker as is. It won't be as fun, but it might be the best way to deescalate this situation. Helen might be short-tempered, but she will cool down just as quickly if Adam plays his cards right.

What should Adam do?
