Accept Liens' protection against the Devilbolt

You couldn't imagine what sort of invention would protect you against such an attack, but you had ****. You had to rely on Liens' skills as an inventor if you were going to survive Nil's combination attack! Desperately, you dug your feet into the ground, then reached back. It was a struggle, but you managed to grab the box from Liens' hand. It was surprisingly weighty-- you thanked Geod that you'd managed not to drop it on your foot.

"Good! Deploy it! Immediately!" the elvish inventor commanded, clenching her teeth as well as one eye as the wind whipped against her face.

You followed her instructions, using the one interactive point on the box: a round red button, situated on one face. As you felt the thing start to transform, you panicked, dropping it from your hands. As it turned out, that was the right call. The small box began to emit a semi-transparent field, almost like a window, in a semi-circle around your feet, while digging itself deeper into the dirt to prevent sliding. You'd never seen anything like this... was it magic or technology? Truly, another feat of the famed inventor, Liens Whitespark!

"Stay behind it. Whatever you do. Don't peak out. Don't move. Just. Try to hold on. While I think of a plan!" Liens instructed you, hugging both arms onto the casket to avoid flying backward from the **** of the wind tunnel.

"You think your little trick will stop my Devilbolt?" Nil Riiche giggled. "Not a chance! Watch as your little toy is blown to pieces! I mean the shield and the squire, if that wasn't clear."

You squinted your eyes, barely able to watch as the black flames all centered in on your position and began pounding against the barrier Liens had loaned you. It was... surprisingly effective! The flames scattered to either side, leaving trails of embers across the ground and setting fire to spilled wine all over the cavern. It was almost as though the woman didn't care about her own plan any more, only the opportunity to destroy you. So far, she was unsuccessful in that task. The shield was holding! You thanked Liens-- it seemed you owed her your life.

"Don't celebrate too soon. The shield... It's..."

You could see what she meant. Sparks were beginning to emit from the box on the ground, along with a thin trail of smoke. It wasn't about to come out of where it was planted, but you weren't sure how long it could keep on projecting its barrier. As if acknowledging your doubts and working to strengthen them, more black flames pounded against the barrier's surface.

"That little toy, standing against the magic my master has granted me? It's an insult!" Nil growled, still smirking, but with a darker expression than before. How long could you continue to withstand her sadistic fury?
