Adella’s dad really messed things up for her.

The criminal charges didn’t stick, as expected. But she was still out of FUTA, and her dad had enough clout to make sure that she couldn’t get back in. She didn’t want to go home to Spain, and you didn’t want her to either.

But she didn’t have a lot of options. She had spent all her time on girls and soccer, and wasn’t very far along in her studies. She didn’t have much in the way of job skills outside of soccer, and due to the charges that were behind her, she didn’t want anyone looking too closely at her past… at least not for a while.

Home was the only place she had to go, and she didn’t want to go there. You didn’t know what else to do, so you told her to crash at your house. To your surprise, she accepted.

Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as just having your girlfriend as your housemate. Just because she was in Florida didn’t mean that you got to see her during the season. You managed to meet up with her in the city exactly one time after a victory trip to the Lodge. This is only the third time that you’ve seen her since her dad messed everything up.

She had all this time here in Gurlberg, so she had to find something to do and a way to make some money. She’s been working as a personal trainer at the Gurlberg Gym. She is so massively overqualified, but it’s probably the best job she can hope to do without a real work visa and all that stuff. It’s good enough that she quickly got her own place in town, although in her texts she makes it sound horrible.

“Darling, what is wrong with you?” she asks as you sit at the table, not touching your pizza, just buzzing and glowing on pure vibes.

“This is my ultimate happiness,” you tell her. You, her, your mom. Your mom is cool about it. She had some doubts when you told her what was going on, but she obviously likes Adella now. Who wouldn’t? She’s so pretty and cool and has all this sexy authoritative presence. Your mom has to understand why you are so in love with her.

There’s no sign of Kayla yet, but you’re used to that. Kayla has always had a very active social life. Now that she’s a college student… she’s probably always up to something.

You talk about recent events in the town, but it doesn’t sound like there’s much going on. The mayor is upset with a notorious sorority, but it sounds like things are mostly quiet. You try not to talk too much about FUTA or the press tour… you aren’t sure how sensitive Adella is about being out of it at this point. She doesn’t seem to mind, but of course she’s going to act happy tonight.

You get a moment alone with your mom in the kitchen as you’re cleaning up after dinner.

“So, mom…” you say.

She looks at you with a smile. She’s heard this tone before. “Yes, baby?”

“I was thinking I’d go see what Adella’s place is like,” you say.

“I won’t wait up,” she replies.

It’s… a weird moment. Not just because your mom sees right through you, but because you haven’t heard those words from her before. Your social life was never active like Kayla’s. And why would she worry or care at this point? You’re almost twenty-one.

You are away from the cameras. The hard work is over for a while. You’re back home, and you’re with Adella. It just feels amazing.
