A week of questing

As they approached the next town, Lauren saw a sign for an inn. Lauren was **** for a break. Her pink, light outfit was muddy and filthy, as were her bare limbs, and she knew she ranked of horse and B.O. She'd never even liked to camp, now she was on a quest, wandering the world with this knight who somehow always looked pristine.

"We should stop there," she said, trying to keep the desperation out of her voice. "I need... clothes. And a bath."

The knight nodded. "As you wish, Highness."

They rode into the inn, the patrons gaping at the sight of the scantly girl on the back of the knight's horse. Lauren's cheeks burned as she slid down, her legs wobbly from the ride. But she held her head high, refusing to let them see how much their stares affected her.

Inside, the inn was dim and cool. The knight helped her to a table.

"I'll see what I can do about some clothes," he murmured before striding over to the bar. Courtney watched his broad back, feeling a strange mix of gratitude and longing.

The innkeeper, a plump woman with a kind face, brought her a bowl of stew and a cup of water.

"Eat up, dear," she said, patting Lauren on the shoulder. Lauren gratefully took the food, her stomach rumbling in response. She hadn't realized how hungry she was until now.
