Chapter 4

Do you take a peek?
A very very careful one
The noises continued as you deliberated, and the need to know slowly overtook the fear of being found. You had a good position, were well hidden in the uppermost opening and had a good vantage point. No better time than now to figure out what sort of monsters may call this place home...
[Rolled a 9-1=8 on Stealth]
The backpack shifted awkwardly as you approached the edge, and in a brief, heart stopping moment of terror, your foot slipped into the dark rushing water with a soft splash. You caught yourself on a rocky protrusion, not getting more than your left boot wet. You desperately hoped the noise was drowned out by the waterfall...
Peering over the edge, you are quickly able to see the source of the noise- it was bipedal, and looked to be covered in rough, matted fur from its wide hips down. The upper body you thought may have been bare skin, but after a few more moments of study, you realize it was actually patches of leather. The thing's head, which resembled a goats, swiveled carefully about the cavern, surveying the room from its lower opening. Two sizeable horns curled around its skull, and the wide harshly yellow eyes on either side of its head were accompanied by a third, placed directly in the center.
It snuffled at the air, its lips curling back as it let out a passive gurgling bleat. It was hard to tell exactly where it was looking with its multiple eyes, it seemed to be able to take in all of its surroundings at once, simply tilting its head occasionally in a precise and deliberate manner. You pulled back, holding your breath, hoping it wasn't able to smell you from there. It didn't look armed, but even at a distance, you could tell its build was dense and formidable. You'd greatly prefer not to be kicked by that thing.
After a moment, you poked as much of yourself over the edge as you dared to see if it had left. It was still there, just barely under the rocky overhang. You noted as it moved that it seemed to be staying carefully under that ceiling, not moving into the few feet of flat ground before the cliff to the waters below. It made another noise, one you didn't think something like it could make- a sharp trill of a whistle, repeated a few short times. Momentarily forgetting the danger, you were enthralled with this chance of viewing an entirely unknown culture's mannerisms and behavior. Something came out of the dark of his cavern, as the goat man kneeled- or squatted? Its two sets of bending joints on their legs made it hard to tell.
You shuddered at the sight of what it had called- two jade green insects, more the size of a normal goat, burgeoning with restless legs. Straining to hear over the rumble, you could barely make out throaty utterances and the occasional bleat, as the creature seemed to pet the too-large bugs. It stood up straight again, and with a clipping of hoof on stone, disappeared back into its tunnel. The bugs, however, remained. You felt the relative surety in your safe high haven wilting as the arachnoid things began to skitter along the plunging walls of the cavern.
"Fuck fuck fuck fuck..." you breathed, pulling away from the edge as they ambled about- hunting, or patrolling? You weren't sure... Shaky hands found your sword, as you tried to think of the best way to proceed.
Deal with the bugs, or retreat up the river tunnel?

The Furrow
The worlds most infamous and insurmountable dungeon- perhaps you can be the one to claim domination over it, or will the inverse prove more true
A narrow fissure in the earth marks the entrance to the Furrow, a dungeon that defies mundane explanations- its ever changing tunnels and halls are better described as a puzzle box of interconnected planes and locations, and there is no natural way to predict or prepare for what one may find within. This means that, in the endless turnings of the wheel, a few lucky souls have (through talent or dumb luck) been graced with untold riches, or powerful arcane secrets and powers. This has attracted the throngs of treasure hunters and adventurous academics who hope to make it big, to play lottery with their own lives. For for every success story there are ninety nine failures, many of which are never heard from again... You are one of those hopeful fools, prepared with simple gear and a dream, ready to challenge to Furrow, for fame, glory, or whatever fate deigns to give you...
