What's next?

A night of unexpected turns

As I walked back to my dorm after another grueling lab session, the nanites whispered their suggestion – "Raven." It wasn't a question; it was more like an insistent hum resonating within my skull. The idea of asking her out had been swirling around in my mind for weeks, but now, fueled by the nanite’s confidence and a sudden surge of boldness, I knew what I had to do.

I spent the next hour meticulously crafting the perfect outfit – something that showcased both my newfound physical confidence and maintained an air of casual cool. The nanites helped with this too; they subtly adjusted my posture, tightened my jawline, even deepened the blue in my eyes. They were like a personal stylist for my new enhanced self.

When I reached Raven's dorm door, my heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. Taking a deep breath, I knocked. The door swung open to reveal Raven herself, her dark eyeliner smudged slightly from what looked like an afternoon spent sketching in the common room. She wore a black t-shirt that clung to her slender frame and ripped jeans that showcased long, toned legs.

A blush crept up her cheeks as she saw me standing there, framed by the warm glow of the hallway light. "Hey," she breathed out, a hint of surprise lacing her voice.

"Hi Raven," I managed, my throat suddenly feeling dry. “I was wondering if you’d like to grab something to eat? There's this new ramen place down on Main Street that..."

She cut me off with a smile, the corners of her lips tilting upwards in a way that sent shivers down my spine. "Actually," she said, pushing a stray strand of black hair behind her ear – a gesture I’d already noted and memorized thanks to the nanites' tireless observation. “I was just about to head out with some friends for dinner. Want to join us?"

"Sure!" I blurted out before my mind could catch up. The nanites were buzzing with approval, their collective intelligence whispering that this was a good opportunity – a chance to test myself in the real world.
