Chapter 10 by Daddy-yoda Daddy-yoda

What happens next?

A new guard arrives, except she’s acting strangely

You quickly sit on your belt as the guard turns to face you, making sure she didn’t notice what you were doing, and waiting for her to turn around again.

You had been working on picking the lock using your belts pin while she was turned away. The process had taken forever, and didn’t seem to bear any fruit. Every time that you were **** to stop would end up releasing the tension and letting the pins reset. But, considering how little skill you had with locks, and the fact that you couldn’t see what you were working with made this impossible anyway, even if the guard left, you would pass out from exhaustion before you succeeded.

Speaking of exhaustion, as you looked at the length of the guards shadow, you realized that the sun was soon setting. Night would make your escape easier, but the fact that rescue had not come in the hours that you were gone didn’t help your moral.

The guard let out a yawn and turned around again, as you quickly went back to work, making sure to keep as quiet as possible. You wondered if your time would be better spent trying to make a connections with Blue. You tried to when you first were locked up, but you had felt a strange presence that seemed to drain your mana, and so you stopped.

Just as you felt the first click of a pin releasing, you heard footsteps approaching. So, despite your progress, you quickly hid your tools underneath you once again. The moment you hid your belt, the figure turned the corner. If they had been any quicker, they would have seen you hiding your belt.

The dark elf figure was a young warrior, her sword accompanied by a small dagger as they hung on her side. She wore a simple dark tunic, with wraps on each of her limbs to keep her form slender. She was visibly the youngest of the dark elves you’d seen so far, only appearing to be a year or two younger than yourself. Her lack of experience apparent as she stood with relative awkwardness, like she had never even worn her own clothes before.

Your guard turned to face her, after looking her up and down, she spoke some words in their language, to which the young woman nodded. The guard gave her a sneer before tossing the ring of keys on the ground by her feet and leaving, reluctantly letting the younger woman handle the guard duties from now on.

After making sure the older woman was gone and out of earshot, the young elf turned to you. Her face was uncovered, letting you get a decent view of her small nose and long white pony tail, the first time you’d seen any of your captors full heads since your talk with Sylvia. Her features were actually quite attractive, even appearing cute as she looked at you absentmindedly. Something that made you uncomfortable, knowing that she was apart of the group that’s kidnapped and practically tortured you.

She didn’t say a word, and after you realized that she wasn’t going to talk, you spoke first.

“Aren’t you a little young to be guarding the prisoner?”

She seemed to listen to your voice for a second, as if confirming your identity, before excitedly rushing over to your cage, kneeling in front of you, opposite of the door. She looked up at you with a smile, a look of relief over her face.

That’s when you noticed her eyes. Instead of the red shade that every other dark elf possessed, hers were tinted baby blue.

“B-Blue?”

You spoke its name out of instinct, not because you truly believed this could be who was in front of you. There was just no way they were able to find you on their own. But the moment you spoke their name, the young woman nodded, before reaching through the cage bars and hugging you. The hug was rough, the bars making it extremely uncomfortable, but there was a warmth in the embrace that only a true friend could give.

This was Blue.

After letting you go, Blue quickly fumbled around on the ground for the keys, and after getting them, handed the ring to you. After a short while of going through each key, you were able to find the right one, and felt the large padlock fell to the ground with a thud.

As the door slowly swung open, you quickly jumped to your feet, before almost falling over. The time spent sitting on the ground hiding your belt pin has caused your legs to go weak. As you tried to keep yourself from falling, Blue quickly came over, helping you keep your balance. As you held Blues hand, you looked up at them, as you truly realized what was in front of you.

“Blue, I didn’t know you could take over the bodies of people, how did you do it? How did you even find me?”

You looked at them, waiting for a response, but as they tried to open their mouth to speak and nothing but air came out, you realized what was wrong.

“You can’t talk, can you?”

As Blue shook their head, and their hosts ponytail flung around behind them, you sighed in disappointment.

“That’s fine, it’s just great to see you again, I thought I’d lost you for good.”

You didn’t even realize until the pure joy you got from seeing them again, but Blue was truly Pochi's successor. Pinching Blues cheeks, you walked out of the cage, before looking around.

There wasn’t anything of use around you, but the cages were kept separate from the rest of camp, the only thing separating it and the voices in the distance was a bush filled dirt trail. You could just leave through the open woods in front of you with Blue.

You’d lived in the woods most of your life, the skills your father had taught you were more than enough to find your way back to town, but if one of their patrols were to find you again, you weren’t certain that they would let you live after realizing you had escaped.

But, you could go back into the cage. With Blue here, you could make a better opportunity to escape. You might by your time and wait to have Blue slip some of their sleeping poison into their food, with a large part of the camp ****, it would be much easier to escape their patrols, as they would have to call them back to protect their camp.

As you wondered what to do, Blue stood by your side, their experience as a bipedal minimal, as they occasionally had to move their feet to keep balance. The whole visual was actually quite adorable.

No matter what you decided, it was nice to have Blue by your side again.

What do you do?
