A new day
A mysterious note
Upon waking up, Logan stretched his arms, feeling stiff and sore from the uncomfortable mattress. He yawned loudly, his eyes fluttering open to greet the new day. As he swung his legs over the side of the bed, he noticed a folded note on the floor.
Curiosity piqued, Logan picked it up and unfolded it gingerly. His heart skipped a beat as he read the scribbled message: "Logan, meet me in the garage. There's something important I need to discuss with you. -Kyle."
The note sent a jolt of apprehension through Logan's veins. What could Kyle possibly want to talk about? And why did he choose the garage as their meeting place? Logan shook his head, dismissing his fears. After all, ever since this whole move thing he had questions, maybe Kyle might have some answers?
Logan found himself standing in front of the large, imposing garage doors. He hesitated for a moment, gripping the note tightly in his fist. His heart hammered violently against his ribcage, and beads of perspiration trickled down his forehead. Gathering his resolve, Logan pushed the heavy doors aside.
Inside, the overwhelming smell of gasoline and oil assailed his nostrils. Logan squinted, shielding his eyes from the dim fluorescent lights overhead. He stepped cautiously forward, his shoes squeaking on the polished concrete floor.
The vast expanse of the garage loomed before him, a maze of tools, spare parts, and forgotten memories. Logan scanned the area warily, looking for any signs of danger.
"Hey, Logan," Kyle's voice echoed from the shadows, sending a chill down Logan's spine. "Over here."
Logan turned toward the sound, his eyes adjusting to the dim light. Kyle stood in his oily, dirty old overalls at the far end of the garage, leaning against a dusty old car. The dim glow of a single bulb cast a harsh shadow across his face, obscuring his features. Logan didn’t take Kyle to be much of a car guy at first but couldn’t deny it was a good look on him, not that he’d seen a bad one yet.
He approached Kyle cautiously, his heart pounding in his chest, "What did you want to talk about exactly?"
Kyle arched an eyebrow, stepping forward into the dim light. "Logan," he said, his voice suddenly upbeat and excited. “I’m glad you found my note, I figured this would give us some privacy, a chance to get to know one another.”
Logan's eyes widened, his heart racing. "Oh umm that sounds great, I’d love to get to know you better Kyle.” Logan stuttered half with nerves half with disbelief.
Kyle motioned towards the bench behind him where two glasses were already poured “feel like having a drink with me? I know it’s early but I won’t say anything if you don’t.” Kyle says cheerfully.
Logan hesitates, scanning the workshop, but seeing nothing suspicious, accepts the sweetener.
Kyle leads Logan to his makeshift bar setup, a simple arrangement of clean towels, ice buckets, and mixers. As they sit down, Logan notices a small table in the corner stacked high with automotive manuals and repair guides. He shakes his head, marveling at Kyle's dedication to his hobby.
Kyle hands one of the glasses of whiskey he had prepared earlier to Logan. The scent of oak and vanilla wafts up from the glass, filling Logan's senses.
He raises the tumbler to his lips, taking a cautious sip. The whiskey burns like fire down his throat, leaving a trail of warmth in its wake. His eyes widen, surprised by the potent kick, he hadn't expected such a strong blend, especially this early in the day.
He looks down at the glass, contemplating whether he should take another sip.
"Cheers, Logan," Kyle says, his glass clinking against Logan's. He takes a generous swig, grinning broadly. "To new beginnings!"
Logan hesitates, his gaze darting between Kyle and the glass. He swallows hard, forcing himself to take another sip. The taste is bitter, but he manages to gulp it down.
As the whiskey courses through his veins, Logan starts to feel a strange sensation. His limbs begin to relax, and his muscles loosen up. He feels a sense of calm enveloping him, like a soft blanket draped over his shoulders.
What’s happened to Logan?
