A group at the beach

The sun was shining bright as Reed took off his socks. He put his feet into the sand and wiggled his toes. The sand felt soft and warm between his toes and it made him happy.

The ride down had taken four, painful hours, especially since the AC in Lane’s car was broken causing the car to become an oven once the sun got up. Still four hours was pretty good time all things considered.

“Dude, I don’t know how you stand sand between your toes,” said Chris as he walked up behind Reed, “feels like bugs crawling on my feet.”

“You’re just not doing it right,” Reed shot back with a smile, “You’ve got to spread the sand out so it doesn’t clump.”

“Whatever you say man,” Chris said with a smirk, as he turned away.

Reed grabbed his socks and shoes and followed Chris across the sand to where the rest of the group stood.

This trip had been a great idea. A spring break road trip to the beach with all of his friends from high school. There was Chris, his best friend who he had know since childhood, Chris’s girlfriend Ellie, Lane, Lane’s girlfriend May, Kami, and Ruby

It had been so long since they had been all together like they were now and Reed was happier than he had been in a while. Ellie had found a really nice house on the beach that they were staying at, and Reed was excited to get the week of fun going.

“Are you feeling okay?” Ruby asked with a worried expression when Reed walked over, “Are you feeling carsick? Cause Kami threw up when we got here.”

“No, I’m totally fine, thanks for asking!” Reed blurted out.

Reed grimaced and looked down. He always got flustered around Ruby. He’d grown really close to her this past year as they’d ended up at the same college and Reed now nursed a secret crush on her.

“My man Reed is A-ok, he’s just a little sentimental for the beach,” Chris said, laughing and throwing his arm around Reed.

“Oh, cool,” Ruby said a little confused.

“Ruby come get into the water with us,” May yelled as she and Ellie waded into the ocean water.

“Coming,” Ruby yelled, walking over to join them.

“Chris, little help, I can’t get the back to the suv to come again,” Lane yelled from the car.

“Jesus Christ,” Chris muttered. “Lane I told you to get rid of this piece of shit years ago, nothing good comes from buying a suv for 500 bucks” Chris yelled, rolling his eyes as he went to help Lane.

“It was a good deal!” Lane yelled back.

Reed smiled to himself. Even after a year at college, nothing had changed between the group.

“Where’s Chris?” Ellie asked sauntering up, the bottom of her shorts soaked from the waves.

“The car won’t shut,” Reed said.

“Told him the car was a piece of junk, but he didn’t listen to me,” May said, shaking her head.

“Shame your boyfriend doesn’t listen to you more,” Ellie said mockingly.

“Yeah that would be nice,” May admitted.

Ellie grinned, “Good thing Chris is here to save the day. You know he’s surprisingly handy for a guy who plays the piano. He fixed my sink one time it was actually really…”

Ellie’s lovely monologue was interrupted by a scream piecing from up by the car.

“Lane probably smashed his fingers in the car door,” May said shaking her head.

The group hurried up to the car, however when they got there they found Chris and Lane looking just as confused as the rest of them.

“One of you scream?” Chris asked, eyebrow raised.

“No, we thought it was you,” Ellie said.

“Maybe it’s an axe ****, oooooooooo..” Lane joked.

“Thank you Lane,” said May.

Their question was answered when Kami came streaking out of the bathroom, white as snow.

“Kami, are you okay?” Ruby asked.

Kami panted and looked at Ruby with a traumatized look on her face.

“I was throwing up, and someone was in the stall next to me, and then someone came in and then I started hearing weird noises, and then there was moaning, and then I tried to leave and a woman grabbed me and kissed me.”

“The hell?” Chris said, “Reed come on.”

Chris and Reed walked over towards the bathroom across the parking lot. As they got closer they heard noises coming from the women’s restroom. The noises were clearly moaning and Chris and Reed shared a look as they got close. As they got to the door, Chris reached to push the door open, but Reed grabbed his arm. He gave him a worried look, but Chris shook him off. Chris pushed open the door, and right there, bent over the bathroom sink, were two people having sex.

The man was completely naked and had unnaturally pale skin. The woman was still wearing the top to a bikini and had a blank look of pleasure on her face. She was also unnaturally pale, but not as pale as the man.

Reed looked over at Chris, who had a shocked look of disgust on his face. Chris let the door slip from his fingers and it glided shut. He turned and walked away without a word, with Reed hurrying behind him, throwing one last glance over his shoulder.

“Lane, start the car!” Chris yelled calmly.

“What?” Lane said.

“Everyone get in the car!” Chris yelled, still completely calm.

Lane got into the drivers seat, while the girls piled into the back. Chris climbed into the passenger seat, with Reed sliding into the last seat in the back. Lane put the car into reverse and backed out of his spot, driving out of the private beach.

“Ellie, can you hand me my phone, I need to call the police,” Chris said.

Ellie rooted in Chris’s bay for a minute before passing the phone up to the front. Chris dialed 911 and told the operator that two people were having sex at the beach and what they looked like. Then he passed the phone to Kami who told the officer about the ****. The operator said they would look into it and asked if there was anything else they could do. Kami said she was fine, so she hung up the phone. The group sat in silence as they drove towards their rental house.
