A date, of sorts

Having left the office once more, and relieved that he had his satchel (with the somehow power granting manga comic safely inside), Zeke happily scanned some thought bubbles as he wandered down the street. He didn’t care that they were mundane, he was just happy to have his ability back. He drifted along the street, watching people thinking about work, family, train times, all sorts of things that were irrelevant to him but important to the people around him.

As he passed a bus stop, he saw a woman waiting anxiously. “come on. He should be here by now”, her bubble read. She checked her watch and the thought bubble added – “its been over half an hour!”

Still in a good mood and with confidence in himself due to his new comic, he stopped and said with a smile, “stood you up?”

“What? I no”, said the girl and immediately clammed up.

She wondered what he was doing as he flicked his hand into the air beside her and recoiled, for a moment thinking he was going to strike her, but he seemed to be tracing some letters into the air after that.

Suddenly a thought came over her in absolute certainty and clarity. She should just do whatever he said, no matter what. Of course she should. She knew that.

“So who are you waiting for?”

“It was a date. A match on tinder, but I think Ive been stood up.” He had asked her a direct question – of course she had to answer the truth, no matter how embarrassing.

“Whats your name?”

“Lillian, Sir” Somehow she knew automatically to refer to her new date as Sir. It was the respectful thing to do. She wondered what he was doing with his fingers though as he seemed busy , as if he was writing. Well, she was sure he would tell her if he wanted to. She wouldnt think of asking.

“Well Lillian, looks like I’ll be your lunch date. Where are you taking me?” he smiled.
