A Trial Run

It took a few weeks to set everything up but eventually they were ready to go.

Jane's partner John worked in tech so it had been relatively easy to order in some new camera's, connecting them to the same system as the first. He also setup a web platform where all of the camera's could be accessed and made it only password accessible as well as a few other restrictions like time based access, multiple users at once and the ability to control the camera's (all of them were pan, tilt and zoomable).

During their discussions about making this a reality, it became clear that they both wanted this to be more than just people watching. Once they'd decided that, John had added a messaging function on the site. Users could send a message on the site to make requests and it would be sent anonymously to Jane's phone as a text message. With a little bit of AI help, all of the messages were stripped of anything that broke any of the rules they'd decided on.

Speaking of rules, they were pretty simple, but non negotiable.

1) Nothing that would cause Jane any permanent harm, bleeding etc

2) No actions that involve interaction outside of the apartment. Something like "go for a run and come home" was fine, but no "Come meet me here" or anything like that.

3) No actions that would impact Jane's personal or professional life outside the apartment.

4) All users are to remain fully 100% anonymous. Attempts to share their personal information, name, contact details, even gender, would result in an immediate and permanent ban to the service.

5) Jane has final veto over any requests, and the ability to turn off the camera's at any time if she feels its needed.

The final detail of the whole idea, which they weren't sure they'd add yet, was that users could pay a fee to send items to a forwarding service that would deliver them to the apartment so Jane could make use of them during the users alloted time.

Once everything was setup and ready to go, they settled on a time and date for a test run, being 10am-10pm the following Saturday when John was away the whole weekend for a work conference. John put some posts out online leaving things fairly vague but within an hour of the posts going up, they had someone book in on the website and everything was set.
