Xander closed the laptop. He tried spreading the changes around a bit this time. Hopefully that would…well, he wasn’t sure. Help him be a hero? Put him in danger? This whole thinking about the future thing was a lot to take in.

Fortunately, for Xander, by the time he stood up, he had already forgotten the World Processor existed or what was in store for him.

Buffy, Willow, and Xander are trying to figure out what to perform. Willow suggests a (-dramatic) (+romantic) [2] script and they take the idea. They have a casual conversation about their lack of talent, excluding Willow, whose nerves preclude her from doing anything. It is interrupted by Sid. A body is discovered missing a heart.

“And then the hero takes her into his arms and kisses her passionately,” Xander said as he read it over. “Um, are you sure we can do this?”

“Come on, it’s a classic script,” Willow said. “If something is classic it’s allowed. And performing a script is the easiest thing you can do in the talent show.”

“Well, I’m game, better than my dancing idea,” Buffy said.

“You dance?” Willow asked.

“Not at all. But it would have been fun to be up there on stage, moving my body to the music, the crowd looking on,” Buffy said as she closed her eyes and pictured it.

“Well, roles,” Willow said, not wanting Buffy to get lost in her fantasies. “Xander plays the hero, I’ll be the priestess, Buffy you are the love interest. We just…”

“Nope, you play the love interest,” Buffy corrected. “I’ll play the priestess.”

“Me?” Willow squeaked.

“Her?” Xander asked at the same time.

“Yeah, she has more lines, Willow is much better at memorizing than I am,” Buffy explained. “Besides, the love interest is an innocent girl, I’d much rather play the sexy priestess.”

“Buffy, priestesses aren’t actually sexy,” Willow countered.

“Actually,” Sid’s voice cut in, “I’ll have you know some of the dirtiest women I’ve ever known had sworn vows.”

The group splits up to do interviews. Buffy talks to Morgan and is unnerved by Sid. Xander is (-frustrated) (+intrigued) [3] by Cordelia being (-self-centered) (+observant) [4].

“So, Emily left the stage about fifteen minutes before her body was found,” Cordelia explained. “Most of us were still on stage, and I don’t think her killer could have gotten to the back without getting past us. So it had to be one of us, but it would have been someone who snuck away.”

“That’s…pretty detailed for you, Cordelia,” Xander said surprised. “I was really expecting you to be more concerned about how this impacted you.”

“Someone died Xander, I’m not a monster,” Cordelia stated. “Now, I’m not sure who it could have been. The only one who left the stage for an extended time was Morgan.”

“Maybe it was Morgan,” Xander offered.

“Have you seen him? He is having trouble walking. He’s…” Cordelia said and then paused. “Huh.”

“What is it?”

“How did I not see it earlier? Morgan is sick. Like really sick.”

“So you don’t think he could have killed Emily?”

“No, but, more importantly,” Cordelia said as she smiled, “this will help me get the best spot in the talent show!”

“Yep, there’s the Cordelia I was expecting,” Xander said as he followed after her.

“About the script,” Xander began as they watched the talent show.

“Oh, I still think I can get Buffy to switch roles with me,” Willow said quickly. “I know you are into her…”

“I don’t think she’s going to go for that. She actually found a sexy priestess costume. But I was thinking about the kissing scene…”

“Yes?” Willow asked, leaning forward.

“I bet we can just mime it,” Xander continued. “Like, it's a school function, PDA and all of that.”

“Oh, yeah,” Willow said as her voice dropped. “Sure, let’s do it that way.”

“Hey, what’s going on over there?” Xander said, not noticing the change in Willow’s behavior.

“It’s Cordelia and Giles,” Willow said. They watched as Cordelia shifted her body closer to the older man, ran her hand over his arm, ‘accidently’ leaned forward to show off her breasts.

“She’s trying to seduce him,” Xander said, amazed. “How much does she want the best spot in the show?”

Giles said something, and suddenly Cordelia’s behavior changed. She reached up and touched her hair, before dating out of the room. “You taught him the hair trick, didn’t you?”

Xander chuckled, “Yep, I taught him the hair trick.”

Xander steals Sid and tries to convince (-Buffy) (+Sid) [10] it’s not (-real) (+necessary to hide) [11, 12, 13]. His performance (-annoys) (+thrills) [14] Willow and Buffy. He agrees to watch over Sid while Willow and Giles do research in the back.

“Come on, you don’t need to hide,” Xander said as he shook Sid, “Just tell us your evil plan already!”

“What’s going on?” Buffy asked surprised as she entered the library.

“Oh, I stole him, and I’m trying to convince him to talk,” Xander said as he shook the dummy.

“Xander, that’s sweet, but maybe I was wrong,” Buffy said concerned.

“Nope, you know what you saw,” he responded. “Why won’t he talk?”

“Oh, maybe he isn’t always sentient,” Willow suggested. “Like sometimes he’s just a dummy.”

“That’s a possibility,” Giles agreed. “Being we have it, him, here though…”

“I can talk to Morgan,” Buffy realized. She smiled at Xander as she headed out of the library.

“Well, we have research to do,” Willow said, before looking to her oldest friend. “I’m really impressed, Xander, keep an eye on him?”

“Of course.”

Cordelia is suddenly nervous about appearing on stage. Giles tells her to imagine people in their (-underwear) (+nudity) [15], which (-disturbs) (+excites) [16] her. He gathers the students for a power circle.

“Cordelia, there is an old trick to dealing with nerves,” Giles said, trying to stop her from freaking out. “Just imagine the audience naked.”

“Even Percy?”

Buffy and Sid talk in the rafters. He tells her about a past relationship he had with a Slayer, but does not go into detail. She is (-disturbed) (+aroused) [17] when he puts his hand on her leg.

Willow shifted nervously. It was the kissing scene. They were supposed to mime it, but with all the demon fighting they hadn’t practiced anything.

Not that it mattered. The crowd's eyes were entirely on Buffy. Did she actually think that priestesses showed off like 85% of their bodies and just wore a funny hat?

Suddenly, she felt Xander’s arms grab her. ‘It’s going well, let’s end on a strong note,’ he whispered before pressing his lips against hers.

Willow melted into the kiss. She heard Buffy say the final line, “And let this union be blessed!” and the crowd began to applaud. But even though she heard them, her brain really didn’t process, so focused was she on finally getting to kiss Xander.

She also couldn’t see Buffy smile. The Slayer was proud about how perfectly this worked out.
