Chapter 61 by Corruption Corruption

“What problems and solutions can you currently see?”

“This may take a while.”

Taking a breath you start from the most obvious and immediate.

“Begin the tutorial again to help train people. Secondly, you can give towns, cities and villages Group Crystals, but that is only a rough solution and should be temporary. The entire Claimant Crystal issue is messed up as the claimed areas can grow too fast.

“Make spawn areas unclaimable. If the Players claim a monster tribe's lair after killing them off, they would not be able to respawn. Those lairs would have resources people would want for their own claimed areas. Not only is it bad for the NPCs, but the Players would have to go further out for adventures. That would make Arkus less attractive to them.

“Also fix the leveling system. No just the flaw I mentioned with the higher levels offing the lower ones. The Party XP formula has issues

Party EXP = (Battle EXP / the number of players) x (1 - (.05 x average player level disparity)) ... The awarded EXP is rounded up to nearest whole EXP point

“There are a few issues with that. Battle XP means that if a level 13, who would normally not get any XP for killing a level 1, parties up with a level 1 player and beats a level 1 NPC to near ****, and keeps them pinned for the level 1 player to finish off, that means the battle XP is 100, and they get 20 XP each, if I read it correctly. Yeah, the higher leveled ones bypass that level penalty. The second issue is how the heck you figure out average disparity between levels? You have a problem figuring it out! For a party of 5 you would need to figure out the difference between the levels for everyone, meaning 20 of them, and finding the average. That is a lot for some quick maths.”

That took Halma by surprise. “What do you suggest we replace it with?”

You shrug. “No idea. However, there is something to consider: Before just using levels with all things you killed, there was the idea for Challenge Ratings (CR). This would allow new players to get XP killing small things like spider and normal rats. It would also be used for other ways to get XP then by killing. For example, defeating a trap might give you XP, depending on how difficult it was. This would also remove some of the killing focus you have here”

Halma was very surprised. He had never considered that! “I have no idea how that can be implemented.”

You grin. “Mention the idea. Before you implement it, start slow by making some level 0 creatures have CR lower than 1. This would fix another issue: if a normal rat on its own is level 0, at the moment killing a whole swarm of them gives no XP. If they had a CR of say, 1/10th, than killing a swarm of 20 rabid rats would give XP.”

Halma nodded. “It might be doable.”

You frown. “At the moment things are a bit messed up with the leveling system. It actually rewards people for being cautious and focusing on killing people lower than you. If a level 6 kills a level 3, they get 70XP. If they kill 3 level 1s and not even at the same time, they get 150XP.”

Halma froze at that and ran the maths through his head.

He started swearing, a lot!

Smiling, you add “And that is just a touch of things you need to look at.”

Heading towards the door you tell him “I’m not sure where else to start with, except for one thing: go over the details of what is needed for multiclassing and subclasses, and make them known. I don’t think all classes have them! Check!”

As you grab the door handle, something else they can do occurs to you “Oh, you may want to see about there being consequences for actions, like bounties put out for murderous or **** Players, and those who play Paladins and others who call on goodly powers getting penalties for straying to Evil. After all, level 67 Paladins should not go around torturing people to ****, expressly level 1’s who just want to be left alone!”

Leaving him stunned you head out to rejoin the party.

How is it going?
