What's next?
[Quest Completed] A reward!
The screen flickers into my vision unbidden, a holographic overlay that only the symbiote can summon now, threading through my thoughts like an afterimage of the club's chaos. Quest Completed: Collaborative Bind. The words pulse in that familiar electric blue, metrics scrolling below. Weave Efficiency: +15%, Synergy Depth: Maxed. A new node unlocks. Intimate Proxy, allowing shared control over bound targets without proximity.
Kira's eyes widen beside me, the afterglow still painting her cheeks with that deep flush. She shifts, propping herself on an elbow, her cropped hair tousled and sticking to her sweat-damp forehead. The platform beneath us vibrates faintly with the bass from below, but up here, the weave's haze lingers like smoke, holding the group's sated murmurs at bay. "Intimate Binding Reward," she murmurs, her voice husky from the exertion, fingers tracing idle patterns on my arm. "It says... Shared Reservoir. Our amps stack now, bleeding into each other. Like the app's knitting us together." Her gaze meets mine, sharp behind the skewed glasses, a mix of triumph and something softer, unguarded. The symbiote thrills at it, a warm tension gathering in my veins that doesn't demand more, not yet.
I pull her closer, tasting the salt on her shoulder as I nuzzle in, the club's dim lights casting elongated shadows across our tangled limbs. The others stir slowly. The redhead stretches with a contented sigh, her painted patterns glowing faintly under the strobes, while the dreadlocked woman disentangles from the tall man, brushing a kiss across his shaved scalp before rising to fetch scattered clothes. No awkwardness lingers. The weave's consent woven through every touch, every release, leaving only satisfaction in its wake. Kira's hand slides down my chest, possessive yet light, as if testing the new bond.
"We should be on our way out," I suggest, voice low against the thrum of the track shifting to a cooler, winding down beat. The symbiote agrees, pulsing a faint map through my mind. Clear paths through the crowd, no entanglements waiting. Kira nods, sitting up with graceful efficiency, her body still humming from the crest. She adjusts her glasses, straightens her shirt with a wry smile. "Yeah. Before the afterglow turns sticky." Her laugh is breathy, real, cutting through the club's haze like a shared anchor.
We dress in the shadows of the platform, the group exchanging lazy nods and farewells. No names, no strings, just the quiet unraveling of the night. Kira's hand finds mine as we descend the steps, our fingers lacing with an ease that mirrors the app's new weave. The crowd parts subtly below, bodies swaying but giving us space, the symbiote's influence rippling out like an invisible wake. Outside, the city air hits cool and sharp, neon reflections pooling on the wet pavement from an earlier drizzle. Kira leans into my side, her warmth a steady counterpoint to the chill.
"Home?" she asks, hailing a cab with a flick of her wrist, the weave subtly nudging the first one to swerve our way.
I squeeze her hand, the intimate proxy already whispering possibilities. Drains on shared energy if we push too far, but amplified reach for when we do. "Yours or mine. Doesn't matter. We've got work to do on this binding." The cab pulls up, and we slide in together, the city's lights streaking by as the night folds behind us, the symbiote sated and scheming in tandem with hers.
