Examining the ring up close, she could see that what had first looked like simple animal faces on the surface of the ring were actually complex magic runes stylized to resemble animal faces from a distance. With the magic energy seeping out of the ring into her wrist, she got the general impression that this ring would allow her to exert a greater influence over animals than she might normally be able to.

Moving her attention to the egg, it was clear now that the thudding had stopped that it was rocking under its own power. Something inside the egg was definitely alive, and would probably be greeting the world very soon.

The ground started thudding again. These thuds were different from the past few... they were steadier. Quieter, but getting gradually louder... gradually closer!

Pippa looked to the edge of the clearing just as the source of the uproar came into view. A huge bipedal dinosaur was shaking the ground with every step it took, and it was heading directly towards the nest. It resembled a green tyrannosaurus rex, except with a red shell on its back resembling that of a tortoise. Its mouth was hanging open, showing off its rows of razor-sharp teeth, and its grotesquely long tongue was hanging out and trailing behind its body.

Behind the dinosaur were the corpses of three wolves, which were wrapped in the dinosaur's tongue and being dragged along back into the clearing. The dinosaur was covered in gashes and bite marks that had clearly originated from these wolves, but the wolves had clearly fared a lot worse under the slamming **** of the dinosaur's tail and feet.

As the dinosaur got closer to the nest, its eyes suddenly locked onto Pippa standing in the nest with the one remaining egg. It released the wolves from its tongue grip and retracted its tongue back into its mouth as quick as a whip, then let out a bellowing roar as it began stomping intently towards Pippa.
