Chapter 338 by The Other Guy The Other Guy

What is her name?

"It doesn't matter."

She said dismissively. "I'm here for research that's all."

"And that means you can't give me your name?"

"It means I don't care about you, or the Princess, or anyone else. I am here to study the material the Princess has told me is present then return to my office."

"Well my name's Christopher." Her prickly attitude had chilled your consideration of talking to her on the way. She seems more like the sort of person who'll only listen if she doesn't have a choice.

The rest of the walk was in silence. The trunk you were carrying attracted more than a few eyes, as did the two women walking under the umbrella. When you arrived at the library she presented her letter to librarian. The librarian looked at you and Clare, she recognised you from your last trip here it seemed as she stood and unlock a door. Directing you to a small room with a handful of books she ushered you in and close it, leaving the three of you alone, with five books.

You thought the woman without a name was going to be disappointed at the lack of promised material but she opened her trunk, took out a book of her own, a small pot of ink and a quill. Setting them on the desk she grabbed on of the five offered books and opened it, reading and scratching notes as she did.

"Ah." You start feeling like you being ignored.

"I don't need or want any assistance, not like you'd understand any of this anyway." You got the feeling you were being called stupid. "That means I don't need anything, go away."

You looked at Clare who raised an eyebrow and nodded at the woman. "I might surprise you. You're looking for a way to travel back to the world your mind came from."

The woman's quill stopped scratching and she glared at you. "What?"

You walked to the other side of the table and sat down. "Welcome to the club. I came from a place called earth, totally devoid of magic, freaked me out when I woke up here at a baby and everyone was glowing." She was still staring at you not sure if she should believe you. "There were twenty of us in total, though two died. We're not all from the same world, or time period. My world was significantly more advanced than this one is."

"Do you know how to get back!" She asked nearly shoving her books away so she can lean closer to you.

"No, I -"

"Please you've got to help me get back, if there are others like us than something must have bought us here, if we can find it can send us back." She looked like she was about to cry.

"We only came here because we died in our last world." You glanced at Clare, partly seeking if that was true, partly for some support.

The woman watched you look, looked at Clare and thought for a second. "You have to send me back!" She shouted jumped from her seat to glare at Clare.

"Sorry." Clare said softly.

"You must be what brought us here." She waved at you as if that explained how she'd figured Clare position out. "Send me back."

"I meant sorry I can't not sorry I don't understand." Clare's gentle tone followed as she stroked the woman cheek softly.

"N-no, you have to send me back, I have to go back."

"Why?" You asked as Clare kept trying to comfort her.

"Please I need to go back." The woman was starting to sob softly and Clare wrapped her in a hug, patting her head.

"It's ok," Clare soothed. "Let it out." She looked over at you after the women settled down and stopped sobbing. "Christopher why don't you explain why she's here."

"Right." You took in a deep breath and when the woman sat down you explained everything you could. Why she'd been invited, what you wanted from her, a bit about Clare herself but you'd leave it to Clare for the rest of that, and lastly if she had any questions.

The woman stared at you for a long moment. "Gabrielle. My name's Gabrielle." She slumped in her seat, the exhaustion she had been living it seemed to finally hit her. "I just want to go home, if you can get me home, I'll, I just want to go home."

You looked at Clare who chewed her lip. "As a Goddess I could, but I'm mortal now."

"Can you go back to being a Goddess?"

"Not without you dying and my sister allowing me, or not without her champion dying and the both of us leaving."

"Ok we do that, we just find whoever that is and," Gabrielle didn't finish the sentence, you felt a bit of relief that she was at least uncomfortable with the idea of killing, though given how **** she was that might not last long.

"Is there any other way?" You asked Clare flatly.

"Not that I'm aware of, traveling to different realities isn't the sort of thing none divine being can just do. I am sorry Gabrielle, but this is your home now." Clare gently stroked her back as she soothed.

Gabrielle shrugged her off and picked up one of the research books. "Then I'll find my own way." She flipped it open and a folded piece of paper fell out. She picked it up, looked at it then you then back again. She unfolded and you saw your name on it. She read slowly as her mouth spread into a smile. "Who's Zara?"

What does your mother have to do with this?
