Chapter 11
by OccasionalReader
What's next?
Apollo v Persephone
{if Court round == 1}
You see a man walk in, wearing a golden toga; following him is a woman in a white toga, carrying a hefty book. Her brown hair is back and up. The man barely glances at Persephone, but the woman following him curtly nods to the hooded woman next to Persephone. The two take their seats at the prosecution's side, the new woman pulling up a chair next to Apollo. "I see both sides have lawyers today. Good, this means that court should actually be orderly. Lawyers, please introduce your sides." The hooded woman stands and takes her hood off, revealing her round face framed with wavy golden hair, eyes brown. "I am Macaria, representing my client Persephone today." She sits back down as the other lawyer rises. "I am Eunomia, representing my client Apollo today." Eunomia sits back down.
The judge speaks once more, "today's case is on the matter of who this cleric next to me is truly dedicated to, as evidence has been brought forth by the prosecution as to question their loyalties to the defense. The prosecution will be Apollo and the defense will be Persephone. Per agreements dating back millennia between the two here today, this trial will occur over the course of five rounds. The first will be on the matter of nature, the second on the matter of music, the third on the matter of conviction, the fourth on the matter of family, and the fifth on the matter of glory." She looks up from her notes, seeing if either side has a response. "Let the trial begin." You feel yourself subjected to a truth spell, and find yourself unable to resist its effects. Whatever you state, it must be the truth.
Eunomia rises and approaches you. "Miss da Vecci, my client has informed me that you have worshipped him extensively. Naturally, this means that your values must at least partially align with his, and as such I wish you to think carefully when you answer any question from either Macaria or I here today. Please answer them in consideration of why you prayed to Apollo in the first place.
Now, suppose that there was a beautiful scene before you: a pristine mountain pool, with tall strong trees around it, underbrush along the ground full in bloom, and song birds singing in the trees. However, you also know that the local duke wishes to build a logging camp nearby, which is projected to be a massive boon to the economy. Being who you are and in consideration of all you do - be it in public or in private - and with consideration to your prayers, would you be more inclined to attempt to stop the construction of said logging camp and thus preserve the forest, or would you be more inclined to attempt to spread your vision of this nature to all you can, such that the idea living before you might be immortalized for all time?"
{elseif Court round == 2}
Eunomia returns to her seat, at which point the judge states, "that concludes round one. Let us proceed to round two." Macaria rises, and approaches you. "Miss da Vecci, neither Apollo nor Persephone are in disagreement that music is well and good, part of the natural order. However, they disagree on methodology. Would you say that music should more rightly be made via inspiration, or more rightly be made via dedication and careful construction?"
{elseif Court round == 3}
Macaria returns to her seat, the judge stating, "that concludes round two. Let us proceed to round three." Eunomia rises and approaches you. "Miss da Vecci, suppose that you had been pledged to be married to a man you hated, and there was no way out of said marriage. Your family did this with full knowledge of the man's character and the fact that you hated him. After joining his house, would you then refuse to ever visit your parents? You are their only child, and they're beginning to ail, occasionally needing tending to."
{elseif Court round == 4}
Eunomia returns to her seat, at which point the judge states, "that concludes round three. Let us proceed to round four." Macaria rises, approaching you. "Miss da Vecci, there is a saying originating from the old world which states 'the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.' Do you believe that the family you make for yourself is stronger and more important than the family you were born into?"
{elseif Court round == 5}
Macaria returns to her seat, the judge stating, "that concludes round four. Let us proceed to round five." Eunomia rises and approaches you. "Miss da Vecci, suppose you had just had a song strike you in inspiration, and after practicing it to yourself it is indeed good. Would you truly keep it just to close relations, or would you seek to spread it to all, gaining the recognition that comes with it?"
{elseif Court round == 6}
"And that concludes the case of Apollo v Persephone in the matter of the cleric to my left. {if Prosecution points > 2} I judge Apollo to have won this case. {if Prosecution points > 4}However, due to the cleric in question's total betrayal of Persephone, they are ordered to forfeit all gifts Persephone gave her on initial dedication. {elseif Prosecution points > 3}However, his new cleric is ordered to forfeit the spell Persephone granted her on initial dedication. {else}However, due to her still partial loyalty to Persephone, she may keep the spell Persephone initially granted her, although she may reclaim the boons of ability she granted her on initial dedication.{endif}{else} I judge Persephone to have won this case. Apollo is ordered to surrender all current claim to her cleric.{endif} All parties may return at once." And with that, she returns to weaving. Both Persephone and Macaria, and Apollo and Eunomia vanish from the court, although you feel that things have changed surrounding you.

Apologies, but these chapters only work well in game mode - too much chapter bloat if I separate it into the five rounds and aftermath.
However, here is probably the least exciting excerpt in the world:
You see a man walk in, wearing a golden toga; following him is a woman in a white toga, carrying a hefty book. Her brown hair is back and up. The man barely glances at Persephone, but the woman following him curtly nods to the hooded woman next to Persephone. "I am Macaria, representing my client Persephone today." She sits back down as the other lawyer rises. "I am Eunomia, representing my client Apollo today." Eunomia sits back down.
