"Do you mind if I search your car?"

"Do you mind if I search your car?" the cop asks.

"Actually I do," you reply politely but defiantly. You know your rights after watching enough cops and lawyer tv shows. "You can't search my car without probable cause."

"You have something to hide?" the deputy asks with a scowl.

"No," you respond with your best poker face knowing full well that what's in your trunk can get you into trouble, at least with Connie's father, the county sheriff. "Like I said, I just want to leave this place to get to my family reunion. I'm already a day late."

The deputy stares at you intently, trying to read you. You hope you aren't showing any signs of nervousness you feel inside.
