A "cult" does not need to be religious based. In the manchurian candidate a Cult of corporate business men used mind control to try to take over the U.S. government. The methods used were all within the realm of hypothetical, if not practical, possibility. Simply put, any group of people with an agenda or ambitions that goeas against the society normal could be considered a cult.
